I hope you have it in writing, others have went to pick up there X and was forced to get it with options and the price changed.
So I wouldn't laugh to loud until you pick up your vehicle at the agreed price.
What dealer did you buy from? |
|
|
| Black-Black-MDX |
Motorcars Acura in Cleveland, OH... and oops... sorry i messed up the numbers...we paid 38,700... we have the price written in STONE... lol... and we agreed on the accessories... this dealership is high quality and does not add features to their mdxs... unless they are demos or the dealer drove them... u do not have to pay for anything extra... u place your order, and if possible... they trade for the mdx that you want, or they put a fresh order through... our X was a fresh order, and the shipping was changed at the factory... The original figure we agreed upon was around 42,000 with all accessories... and that is a CRAZY markup... We haggled and i explained to them what they would be getting... dealer's invoice is around 37,000 and i paid them about 1700 above invoice... which is a GOOD REASONABLE profit for them... and they agreed! believe me... if you explain to them... they will listen... there is no CRAZY demand for them... they just say that to you so that hey can make money... it is just a gimmick... they make a reasonable profit on ALL their cars... all luxury car companies do this... they say that people are lined up to buy the cars... they might be... but that just puts extra pressure on you to buy it if you really want it and you dont have time to negotiate. If you take your time, and keep working with the person... they will agree... And dont go to them... let them come to you...Give them a reasonable price you are willing to pay... if they say no... say ok... and then walk out... say your going to buy the XC90 then... or something like that... they will call you back... believe me... it happened with us... we left the dealership and within FIVE MINUTES... they called us back... saying that the price is ok... they sell enough of these Xs to make a profit to allow them to give you it for such a low price... be patient and take your time... trust me... hope this helps... it helped me!

Congrats on a well argued deal. . . if everyone else did the same as you, perhaps the dealerships wouldn't take advantage of customers. . . unfortunately, people want what they want.
And as my wife said, the MSRP and for what we got, it was still a steal. . . compared to the X5, ML and similar models.
Again, way to go. . . |

| One comment: Supply and demand for various cars is different in different parts of the USA (and Canada, I presume). So when somebody says they got a great deal somewhere, it isn't necessary news that applies to someone somewhere else, unless they're willing to travel a long distance. Many or most dealers will still let you walk instead of discounting from MSRP. (Why discount to one customer if another customer will come in soon and pay MSRP?) Also, it seems to be clear from what quite a few people are saying that discounts are now becoming available here and there on MDX's, where this wasn't the case even 6 months or a year ago. One thing that might tend to even it all out: Where demand is tight for new MDX's, it's probably also tight for used ones, and people living there just might be able to get higher quotes for trade-ins. |

Wow. Just read through this thread.
Not exactly the greatest way for a newcomer to introduce himself to the community... claiming everyone here is an idiot for paying what they paid and professing to be a great negotiator. Perhaps it was just the excitement of purchasing an MDX.
Black-Black-MDX: If you got a good deal (and it sounds like you did) then, good for you. We're all happy for you. But... there are lot of factors that go into what each individual pays for the MDX... like Dale MDX mentioned above, location has a lot to do with it - as well as timing, dealer stock, and even the individual dealership. |
|
|
| crmsnidol |
| Not getting NAVI certainly allowed for some negotiation. AFAIK, they are still 3 months out on pre-orders and non-negotiable. |

Black-Black-MDX,
We are really a bunch of great people and X enthusiasts to a person which is why you will be welcomed to this site. Pricing has been discussed ad naseum here but in a more informational tone taking into account all relevant factors. Sounds like you got a great deal. The only downside as I see it is that when all is said and done and you are driving your new X you will still be in Cleveland. I got a Sage Touring+Navi in Northern CA in a week at MSRP. I looked all over the state and found lots of tourings only or touring+Navi in Silver available. But I wanted what I wanted. I was on 5 dealers lists in case of cancellation. The delivery time was estimated at 2-3 months everywere I looked, 3+ months to order. I got the call and whipped out my credit card for a deposit.
Congradulations on your great deal. It's all supply and demand!:) |
|
|
| vicpai |
........there were Two (2) PRIMARY factors that resulted in your getting a good deal on the MDX:
1) You bought a Non Navigation equipped model.
2) Your location was Cleveland, OH (I've been following these "pricing" threads for sometime now, and from my recollection, I've seen 2 posts before, from people in the Ohio area, that got around $1,500 to $1,800 off MSRP on Non-Navi models)
......It's all a game of supply and demand!.......That said, I'm a big supporter of people who haggle well and don't just "believe" what sales people tell them (makes it better for all of us consumers). However, for right now, the MDX is a "high-demand" (or I'd put it more appropriately as a "low-supply" ) vehicle, for whatever reason.........and trust me, I've done a ton of research on pricing! .......Discounts are JUST NOW beginning to appear, ranging from as little as "free accessories" on Navi models to as much as $1500 or so off MSRP in some regions, on Non-Navi models. That said, in a few months, with SEVERE competion and other factors there's likely to be more discounts! |
|
|
| Black-Black-MDX |
| wow... then i did get a good deal... but hey... cleveland isnt that bad... and the demand for mdxs isnt THAT low... but its probably higher in the west... and if any of you didnt like my tone... i am sorry... anyways... i am getting navi/dvd installed aftermarket b/c my brother in law sells that stuff... thats probably why i'm getting mine so quickly... oh well... i know it wasnt a GREAT way to introduce myself, but i was excited... i hope to hear more from all of you... 16 days left!!! |

Black-Black-MDX,
It is great that you could get such great discount on your MDX. Back in my time, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get such deal. There are at least 5~6 acura dealers in my area within 1 hour driving distance. All the dealers required at least 5 months of waiting time. So NO ONE could get that deal.
 |

| So let me get this straight, you're paying $38,700 for an MDX that is $40,300 MSRP AND the dealer is giving you a Wood Wheel, Wood Meter Panel, Wood Shift, Running Boards, Tail Deflector, Moonroof Visor and BSM for FREE? HondacruraWorld.com is down, so I can't get the prices on all that stuff, but it's got to be around 2K to 3K installed. So you're saving over $5,000! That's got to be the best deal IN THE WORLD on any MDX. Seems too good to be true. |
|
|
| renov8r |
...changes from moment to moment! From the dealer's perspective, it may have made GREAT SENSE to try and 'stock up' on base or RES models 3 or 4 months ago, when NAVI was not order-able THEN the competition SHIFTED. With the XC90 becoming available, more people who need/want 3rd row had something to consider. Base MDXs are a tough call against a base XC90. Factor in the uncertain economy and it becomes clear that some dealers may be quite anxious to keep stock low... A friend of my wife just picked up an 03 base for a bit under MSRP at a Chicagoland dealer-- she found that two other area dealers would not budge on price...
The MDX is still an excellent value at MSRP when compared to some competitors, so "deals" are still the exception, NOT the norm. I suspect that smart dealers keep a little score card to help them judge how "deep" the waiting lists are and how many days/calls it takes to sell an MDX that arrives "unspoken for" or the original orderer "backs out". Some dealers have a much smaller pool of potential buyers...
The next bit of competitive pressure is likely to come from the SRX, but that won't be available until 3rd quarter -- by then there should be little/no backlog of MDX orders for any model/options..., |

| Sagebrush Premium for $1500 off MSRP + $295 BS dealer fee + $38 tag/title. Roof rack, BSM's, pinstripes, wheel locks, cargo tray, magical paint protectant... all installed for no additional cost...Towing Package thrown in the back (uninstalled) for an additional $500. They ultimately would have given me this deal on any model and in fact I had to actually wait for the Premium (because I wanted SB over Sandstone). They had Tourings, DVD's, and Navi's in stock. They gave me a TL to drive until it arrived. It arrived today. They called and wanted to know what color pinstripes I wanted. Atlanta Area. |

black-black-MDX,
if you really wanted to help/be a constructive member of our web site, it would have been easier to just share your experience with members who are soon to purchase MDXs.
to sit back and call MDX owners who paid msrp or more "idiots" tells us alot about you, is obnoxious/thoughtless/insensitive and shows your ignorance regarding at least two things:
1. everyone has the right to buy an MDX under whatever terms they are comfortable with, for whatever reason(s).
2. supply and demand is the bottom line, and that depends a great deal on location, # of MDXs available, i.e. the MDX w/ nav+res makes up only 10-15% of all, so negotiating a lower price on these is much more difficult.
the excuse that you were so excited about your purchase that you insulted many MDX owners is an example of a person who cannot humbly appreciate his good fortune. instead you went out of your way to hurt others.
that's pathetic!
before your next attempt at contributing to our web site, you may want to take a step back and see what things look like as the recipient of your "help"!

first off cmdpm... i DID NOT CALL ANYONE AN IDIOT... i just said that it was crazy to pay MSRP... ok? and JTM and Arzoo... yes i DID get that deal... i will take pics and send them to you all... and why the hating on cleveland? come on... i am sorry if this is a bad first impression... i hope to change that... but... i hope you understand that we just didnt get this deal by going in there once... i had been on the phone with the sales person for about 3 weeks before i got it... and i guess in Cleveland, there isnt a HUGE waiting list... cuz i get mine in TWO weeks... and believe me... this deal is NOT too good to be true! I dont know... maybe it is a once in a blue moon thing... but i am sure i am not the only one who knows how to work the sales rep and the manager... i've talked to the manager personally... and maybe he just sick of dealing... lol... and he just caved in... who knows... oh and also... another great thing... we had agreed at 38,700 for all the extra featuers EXCEPT Body Side Molding... when he called me back i told him that he forgot to put it on... and he put it on at NO EXTRA cost!!! wow... now that's a great dealership... i am sorry about my past posts... i have just been soooo excited... and i am sure you can atest to that because all you other X owners were probably excited when you got yours! sorry guys!! my apologies!!!
Edit: and yes... i have a blue TL in the mean time while my X comes to me! i sold my other car cuz i bought the X and they gave me a TL... ACURA IS AWESOME!!! |

I agree with cmdpm in that there "appeared" to be an implied calling of those who paid MSRP "idiots" (note cmdpm put idiot in quotation marks and some consider crazy and idiot to be synonyms). I might add that you are still implying that anyone who paid MSRP was lazy because they did not work the sales person for three weeks and/or go there more than once:rolleyes:

Sure thing. I will lose the dots. Ok? And, Arzoo, I am speakin the truth and nothing but. I understand why you would doubt me, but I am not lying to you guys. I got a great deal. Arzoo... The MSRP for the Touring edition is 38,300 or 800. I forget which. I did not get NAV or RES installed. I am getting RES aftermarket. |

Hi Black-Black-MDX:
___I am not a proponent of MSRP on anything either but when most Acura dealerships have a 2 month + backlog and no X’s on the lot, what incentive would they have to go below MSRP? You did receive an excellent price but I am sure it had more to do with Motorcars X inventory or increasing allotment rather than your skill as a purchaser in this regard … 3 weeks on the phone with a particular dealership won’t get you anything but frustrated here in the Chicago area and this is norm for many more populated areas of the country. Fortunately, it is not the norm in some cities far South of my locale … in any case, it looks like you fell into one heck of a deal!
___Good Luck and enjoy your incoming X.

i don't think anyone has bad feelings about your good fortune- i just think that some of us cannot understand how a dealer can take a loss on the deal. whatever the case may be, i don't think you need to defend or prove that what you are representing is true. if everything works out in your favor then more power to you.
my message was pretty simple-the way you presented your good fortune resulted in insulting many good-hearted and happy MDX owners WHO CANNOT GO BACK IN TIME AND RENEGOTIATE THE TERMS OF THEIR PURCHASE. your complete lack of tact and humility served no purpose but to offend.

Are you saying that your MDX is a Touring without navi or DVD (RES)? If so the MSRP is $38300.
Did you pay under $38000 or $38700?
Did you include the costs for the aftermarket DVD?

Hi B-B-MDX, welcome to the site - you got quite the induction! We're a generally decent bunch, but do keep each other honest. Great deal on your X!
My bro-in-law bought his Odyssey at Motorworks (adding the Nav after seeing the one in my X), and also had a good experience with that dealership - gets a free wash anytime he wants! They're across from the Jag dealer, if I recall.
Dale, no monster-that-ate-Cleveland movie as far as I recall (I'm a native). We did have a river that caught fire and burned down a bridge (would never have had the great Randy Newman song without it), as well as a mayor who set his hair on fire, not once, but twice. But it also has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it's where the Cleveland Orchestra got it's name, and has a great R&B scene.
And just try to find kluski noodles in Duluth... |

Hey Black Black MDX:I admire your ENTHUSIASM!I don't think Blk means any harm here he is is just "fired up" over his deal and rightfully so.
Dale MDX really said it ALL for most of us.There are a lot of factors in buying any vehicle, and the X is well worth the money $for$ vs anything else IMHO at FULL sticker. Some things to consider that haven't been mentioned.
1)Some folks need the vehicle yesterday!
2)Others are at that stage in life where they don't care that much and just want to get in the thing and drive it home. The're happy to pay sticker to get what they want right NOW!!
3)Dealers are a funny lot If you happen to catch one with a extra vehicle and its time to reorder their allotment then they may just come off the price to move it.
4)Some are not willing/interested in arguing, nor are they willing to fly 500 miles to get one and drive it back home.
The BIG key here is as Dale said supply and demand! The dealer here in Brentwood can sell All the Xs he can get at MSRP.Things might change in the future but right now thats his program!
Tom
PS Black! I bought my Touring Navi, for $1000 under sticker with a few extras, and I'm as happy as you are. |

I think there are three primary factors in getting an X below MSRP:
1) regional supply and demand (the single biggest factor)
2) timing
3) showing that you're willing to walk away
I negotiated last week for a sage touring w/o NAVI or DVD for $38k flat last week with wood meter trim, burlwood shifter, wheel locks, running boards and cargo liner thrown in. Per Acura's pricing that X would have stickered at $39,989. The X was built last week and should be in my hands next Monday.
There are only two Acura dealers in Kansas City where I live which limits supply, but one of them started advertising X's in the local paper for the first time two weeks ago so I thought the market might be getting softer. I also was looking at an XC90 and let the dealer know it (I also told him I was considering the new Aviator but actually wasn't serious about that).
Regarding timing, the end of the month is the best time to negotiate because dealers will get future allocations based on month end sales figures. They're more willing to negotiate then and not get full sticker because they know that two X's sold at a lower profit (the one they sell you and the new allocation they will get) will still net them more than a single X sold the following month at full sticker.
Also, while I think I'm a good negotiator I probably left money on the table. $38k was my first bid, they countered at $39.1k. I walked at that point, but called back two days later and told them that they could take my original offer or I'd be buying an XC90 that I already had a refundable deposit on (which was truy). After the obligatory discussion with the sales manager they agreed.
By the way, I would encourage all newbies to tell their buying stories here, whether they bought at sticker or below. I know I did some significant lurking before buying my X and this type of information is invaluable. Its the least we can do to "repay" the org and help others get behind the wheel of an X. |

Can I throw one out for the lions on this thread....
I bought my '01 SS with tour pak/nav used with 11K miles on it for....
...$29,500. My "X" used to be a an Acura show car that traveled around the country when the model was released in '01. I used to work for Honda and I bought the X as a going away present when I switched jobs. Did I get a good deal.... who knows?.My bank and my insurance company sure thought so. But I did'nt think it was something worth crowing about....until I saw this thread. Anyway regardless if you paid full pop or got the deal of the decade, the X is a great car hands down. I especially like giving my friends who Lexus' Rx300's a ride to the restaurant. They can all fit in my SUV and they always make a fuss about the Navi system. :2: |

I paid full sticker, and about $2k or $3k more than BlackBlackBling reportedly did.
Of course, we've been enjoying ours for over two years now :31: |

You may want to try Search (keyword - checklist &/or delivery). Although it was for the '01 & '02 the points should be relevant. |

Lesson learned by a bragging newbie. BonB (AKA "DOT" will get the picture or he won't hang around too long. :jump3: :25: )
As for me, living in CA there's NO WAY I'd ever go for the Ebony/Black combo. Too hot!! (Yep - changing the subject again... )

Between this thread and the 'Everbody: look at a my new signature' one, time to look at the old Merriam Webster...
Let's see...
egotistical
adj 1: characteristic of those having an inflated idea of their own importance [syn: egotistic, narcissistic, self-loving] 2: characteristic of false pride; having an exaggerated sense of self-importance; "a conceited fool"; "an attitude of self-conceited arrogance"; "an egotistical disregard of others"; "so swollen by victory that he was unfit for normal duty"; "growing ever more swollen-headed and arbitrary";
... and look, next to it, there's your picture ! :1pat: |

LOL! I'm not one to make people mad! :1:
But Fredo, you're pushin it a little. You are new to the board. This post was awhile ago, and I was very immature back then. I have gotten to know some of the members on this board quite well. They can vouch for me. You on the other hand are new and you need to create a reputation. Messing with me isn't gonna help you. So, I'd watch it buddy. Get about 300 more posts and then we'll talk. You don't even know me, how can you say something like that? First of all, the signature thread was a JOKE. GET IT? A JOKE! I was just messing with some people. Where do you come into all this? I respect all the people on this board, esp. Hondacuraworld, EXCALIBUR, LaborLitagator, DaleB, the ADMIN :p, Pac8, Zafer, mdxxxx, TheWorm, msu... just to name a few. If I missed you, I am sorry! So, Fredo, just watch. No hard feelings as of yet. I am still wondering where you came from to say something like that... It puzzles me. You just come out of nowhere to criticize someone... Very stupid of you I think.
Members of the board, what do you think? Pac8? Excalibur? What do you guys think? |
