So, I finally got the MDX after an agonizing wait for 3 months and 25 days. Its a beautiful ride I must say, and on the whole I am very satisfied other than a couple of things that irritated me straight off the bat.....here are my experiences:
The Dealer Experience:
I was finally able to get a good deal on accesories from the dealer. Please refer my previous thread :
http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...light=Accessory
I was able to get a Free Cargo Tray and Wheel locks in addition to the side steps, cargo net and all weather floor mats all in about $700 (which would what they would cost me if I ordered from Tim). All in all I was very happy with the experience at the dealership. They took about 1.5 hrs in going through every single button on the X. At the end of the demo, we did all the Financial Stuff and then just as we were about to drive off, I was reminded about the Survey, and how the sales guy (Paul) needs a 5...just goes to show how important these surveys are.
The Drive from the Dealer to Home:
On Friday, 01/31 it was raining/sleeting here in NJ, and the drive home was pretty safe. My wife and I felt very safe in the X. Unfortunately we took the Garden State Parkway (and my fellow Jersians would now what a pain that would be especially during rush hour), so i never got the chance to speed up at all. Finally we just got off the GSP and took local roads home. I was very impressed with the drive, the handling, and the navigation system. The directions it gave me were right on ! The one thing that really irritated us was that the rain sensing wipers were a pain...it was not raining very heavily, and for some strange reason these wipers would start wiping really fast after some time. Later on after reading the manual, i figured out that the wipers depend on the rain as well the speed at which you are traveling, so maybe thats why they were going off so fast every now and then. I decided to stick in the non auto mode.
So we reached home safely and parked the X in the garage. It fit perfectly in, and I was able to open the rear door with the garage door closed, and it did not touch the door opener rails, so that was very good (I have the average sized garage). Then I saw that the X was really really dirty coz of all the mess on the roads. Imagine driving a dirty but new car into the house....so I resolved to clean it as soon as possible.
And After:
During the time I was washing the car, I got really irritated with the weeping mirrors and the rear glass. I would dry the car and then water from the grooves would start trickling down onto the sides again...so the trickling and the cleaning went on for some time and then i finally put in a small piece of absorbing cloth in the groove to suck up all the water.
And interestingly, the inside part of the front glasses would get wet every time I would put the glass down or up. Thats bewilders me, coz water from the outside could not reach the inside of the glass ?? Maybe this was left over liquid from the dealers ??
Now the X looks very majestic and I have seen so many people staring at it when I drove around. Some even asked me the model and looked/peered inside the car to see all the "stuff" in there.
And the only other irritant I have so far is that there is a minor clicking sound coming from the left hand side of the steering wheel. It only comes if I am driving and i move the steering slightly. I am tempted to think that its one of the grooves that switch off the indicator after a turn. But why would they keep clicking when I am driving straight ? Any of my fellow 03 X owners heard this same sound ?
So now I am happy camper enjoying my X driving around, and finding excuses to drive around. I still have to play around with the Navigation System and the RES, but I am sure I'll be done with them in the next couple of days.
Will be posting pics in the Gallery Section pretty soon.
Thanks to all the people here for making this an excellent (and addictive) site. I think both my wife and I visit this site at least 10 times a day !
Regards,

| CONGRATULATIONS on you new MDX. I know what you mean about the GSP. Seems you picked yours up on the same day I ordered mine. What dealer did you purchase from? How did you get such a good deal in NJ? |

kchaz,
I picked mine up from DCH Montclair Acura in Verona, NJ. Ordered with them on Oct 5th and got it on Friday !
As far as the deal is concerned, I think there are others on this forum (who are probably not in NJ) who have got better deals. When I was looking, there were 2 dealers offering me MSRP (Precision Acura in Princeton and Montclair Acura).
I think Montclair chose to give me some stuff for free so that I could take the car within the month of January. They were really anxious to sell the car in jan, and since I originally wanted to pick up the car today(02/03) , they decided to give me reduced accessory prices and some freebies !
So in a nutshell, I got a good deal overall and needless to say I am pretty pleased with my X and am thoroughly enjoying it !!
All the best for your X. To keep yourself busy while you are waiting, I would advise you to keep visiting this board often...time will fly by a lot faster. :) |

| Just an idea for your weeping after a wash: I now use my leaf blower to dry off the MDX, paying special attention to those places that water may collect. No longer a problem! |
