Well, as alot of you know, I have been swapping and trying new components in search of the sound I want. It looks like I am on the right track now. I just got rid of my MTX 4300x amp and got a JL Audio 300/4. I only got to hook it up and make sure everything worked and I am very impressed. My current setup is as follows:

Eclipse 7002 indash screen hooked to a 12 disc Eclipse changer
JL Audio 300/4 4 channel amp
Image Dynamics 5 1/4 Chameleons in front doors
Image Dynamics 10" ID sub currently running free air

I just did a quick hookup of the amp and with the gains turned completely down, it sounds incredible. The volume is ever bit as loud as the MTX with the gains properly set. The clarity is great. I have to get my Eclipse manual out to see what the voltage is to set it but, I can not imagine having to adjust it much. Lower gains means less noise chances.

My next steps are to change the 5 1/4 to a pair of Image 6 1/2 that I just bought. The 5 1/4 will be heading to my TL. I am going to have the sub area sealed up and dynamatted. I can only imagine how good that will be when even now, it sounds pretty good. Then, at some point I will add a dedicated sub amp. Probably the JL 250/1. I can then replace the rear factory speakers and run the 300/4 to the front and back door speakers.

This may be an expensive hobby at times but, I have to say, it sure is alot of fun when it works right.

Finding the "right" sound is what it's all about. Sounds like you are moving towards meeting your goals (nice feeling huh?).

Congrats. JL Audio amp is sweet. I was going to put in the 500/5 (5 channels), but the dealer only has one in stock, and when we tested it (before hooking it up in the car), it does not work?? Plus it's a little too BIG for the headrest area, and I won't be able to remove/put the headrests in there.
So they recommned to me the Eclipse 5-channels. Told me it's every bit as good, if not better, and since it's low profile, I don't lose the headrest storage. Overall, I'm thrilled with what I've got, but I bet it probably would sound better with the JL amp...
