OK, after long research and looking for better low beams for my MDX I was not much smarter… I know HID is the best thing, but I was looking for something cheaper, but still better than stock lights. I first tried Philips Blue Vision for ~$12 a piece and thought it is a improvement over the stock bulbs on my 2003 MDX. As it turns out, you get what you pay for so after comparing the pictures, the stocks are almost as good as Blue Vision. Then, I decided that I am still not happy (you probably now the feeling) and had some money burning the hole in my pocket, I guess :-) , I decided to try the PIAA Xtreme White Plus for ~$80 a pair from AutoBarn.

Since I learned so much about my MDX here I decided to take some picture and try to show difference between these three bulbs and help some of you that might be looking for better low beams… I hope this helps…

To me the Xtreme White Plus bulbs are really good, but you be the judge. I just installed everything and took pictures of different setups, and in process got myself frozen in garage :13: . It is snowing and cold in Michigan…

If your going to stick with bulbs, don't waste your time with anything other then PIAA.

DevExpert,

Thanks for posting those pictures. They certainly are dazzling. Just a suggestion, why don't you try the Philips BlueVision 9005's in the low beam position? You just need to modify them a bit by shaving down the plastic ribs on the bulb housing and you are good-to-go. It just might be the best bang-for-the-buck fix. Just thought you might like to know.:4:

Coming from a 2000 Mountaineer Premier, the lights on my 2003 MDX Touring w/ Nav seem dim. I've read the many posts of using 9005 as low beams so I stopped by Kmart. They have the Philips 9005 HV's (claimed 30% more light) at only $10.39 so I bought a pair. Honda is very cheap with their wire harness; there is no slack to allow twisting the sockets. I installed only one of the 9005's on the low beam and pointed the MDX to my garage door. The 9005's beam was about 30 degrees lower than the stock 9006. I decided to put back the stock for now.

Has anyone actually driven with the 9005 blue bulbs as low beams without changing the alignment? How do they compare with 9006 (low beam) SilverStar's? I did get some info on the warranty (below)

"We do not have a written warranty, but do stand behind our products 100%. The estimated life span of the Silverstars is between one and two lighting seasons (one to two years). Depending on the use of the bulbs, the life could be at the short or long end of the life span. If you have experienced less than one year of life with Silverstars, please forward the defective bulbs to my attention at:

OSRAM Sylvania

I can offer you a replacement set or a refund. If a refund is requested, please include a copy of your receipt or a notation of what you paid.

Thank you,
Hannah"

Consultant,

I have been running the Philips BlueVision 9005's in my lows, highs, and fogs for several months now. I did not have to adjust the alignment whatsoever. Everything works fine.:29:

I have the PIAA super plasma blue for the fogs and aftermarket HIDs. The PIAA used to look really bright as the Low Beam was not yet upgraded to HIDs. Now with the HIDs the PIAAs look like they are the cheap OEM bulbs.

Excalibur:

I picked up the last two 9005 Bluevision from my local Kmart and installed them as low beams. You are correct, no change in alignment is needed and results are great. It seems that the bulbs with optimized filament positions for high beams (i.e. Philips HV and Silverstars) need adjustment when used as lows. I decided to put the HV's as highs since they put out 30% more light and are cheap ($10.50). I'm having trouble finding more 9005 Bluevisions locally for the fog lights. It seems that most auto part stores try not to carry the same merchandise as Kmart and who knows if Kmart ever will restock.

EXCALIBUR
Consultant,

Glad you like the Philips BlueVision 9005's in your low beams. You might try different Kmarts in your area. The inventory seem to vary depending on how frequently ACURAMDX.ORG members raid the stock. Good luck.:29:
