Just an update & a few notes to see what members think.
Gotten to drive our new MDX now for a week.
Lovin' it!!!
Getting many WOW + NICE +SWEET + ect....!
Very glad we purchased the MDX rather than the X5

1) gas milage: 1st tank = got 16.7 mpg (on the trip computer) - mixed driving (70 city/30 HWY) = assumed this will improve after "breaking in" period

2) Hi-Tech corner => note to MDX Design Team
a) Bose stereo = speakers not what I expected
b) cassette deck = OK I knew this when I purchase it but what were the ACURA MDX design team thinking?? - have not use one in 5 years.
How about replacing this space with......oh maybe...a small CPU + HD (since already have navigation system + satellite link) to support USB + firewire + ethernet link
c) USB/Firewire = plug & play iPOD or other plugables + download/upload data
d) Ethernet link/Hi-Fi = excellent way to get updates on softwares + user's link to internet (for safety - can not be use when only driver is in the car or must be at full PARK position to use it)
e) Navigation screen = pls incoporate pivotable screen (4-ways)... can't see anything when screeen is wipe-out by sun glare (already have windows tinted = max allowed by Texas state law)
f) Why not incoporate the trunk/back door auto open button on keyless entry??

3) SAFETY - Something to keep in mind with Navi system = I need to not look & play at the navigation screen too much = can be quite dangerous when driving

That's is for now - more later

Congrats Slammerfly on the new purchase! Mine is in and we should be picking up before the weekend. Would love to see some pics as well, if you have time.

Don't forget to update your profile!:D

Slammerfly,
I agree with a number of points you make...

I haven't used a cassette player in years! Your suggestions for alternatives would certainly please me.

The Bose speakers don't seem to be the problem as much as the audio system. If you listen to classical, and easy listening music the speakers are outstanding, delivering clean clear sound. However, my Pink CD and other pop and hip hop music (yes, I have very eclectic tastes) over drives the low range speakers. The system doesn't allow for simple "loudness" control, or adjustment to the subwoofer seperate from the bass control. They could have tuned the system much better.

The Nav screen does wash-out in bright sunlight. Tilt might have been helpful.

On the other hand, the remote does unlock the back doors and rear tailgate, just press the unlock button twice.

Gas mileage made me a bit nervous until I checked it this morning (I now have 900+ miles on my X) and the mileage was 24mpg on my commute to work. However, I ruin my average by stomping on the accellerator... it's not as fast as my Integra was, but it is quick and equally fun to drive.

Overall, the performance and handling was far better than I imagined, and I had high expectations. The traction and cornering surprised me. Living in snowy Minnesota and driving through tight winding valley roads on the weekends (when fly fishing), I can't imagine a better Sport Utility Van! I guess I'll live with the few things that are less than perfect.

David Jo -
Agreed.

The speakers are a bit weak.

Noted on the "double-click" but was hoping for the actual release & the back door would begin to open slowly = so when you got your hands full - you don't have to stop + drop/lean your stuff & pop the back door to swing it open = just a little more help would be great = like our Honda Accord....the trunk button release the lock & the trunk opens about 6-7 inches.

I will try to get some better photos....here is a picture just after pick up.
will get more this weekend if the weather cooperate. 9can't seem to attach the picture = too big - will try later)

Thanks to all members for all the 1st hand experiences with the various models & ins/outs and with such detailed information = very informative & helpful. This is a very good site. Glad I found you guys/gals.

The last time I used a cassette tape was in 1996 - in my '90 Miata then I switched out the factory AM/FM/Cass for AM/FM/CD and never looked back. Come on - better sounds et al & No more stuck tapes ect....

I use the cassette deck for books on tape as well. The local library does not have any on CD yet, So it was actually a selling point for me. Although I agree about have extra inputs or storage devices in the car, WIFI sync's to my Outlook calendar and contacts would be really useful. In the meantime the calendar is flahy little extra, but to time consuming, so the Palm comes with me anyway.

I asked my sales rep this morning while taking delivery of my MDX, why Acura kept putting cassette players in. He said that it's because of Books on Tape.
kflint
Books on tape are one-half to one-third the cost of books on cd. Having both a cassette player and a cd player was "a" (although certainly not "the") selling point for me.
slammerfly
Really?! - I must say that I have never bought or heard any "book on tape".
Wow!!! Quite amazing....
I still buy the books & read it the old fashion way.
Hummm- i would have never thought about this much use for cassette??!??
