Well, only if he owns it. Perhaps the question is "who's the youngest MDX owner who actually purchased the car for cash, and didn't use someone elses money?"
Heck, the poster's only 18, we'll cut 'em a break on posting etiquette.... |

OK... the whole point was..
I'm young, I'm 18 and who in the right mind of my age would purchase a brand new Acura MDX. (vehicle price is $43k).
That is why I asked this question..
I had many options to choose from.. and I am proud to be an owner of the X.
If you gave an 18 yr old an option to purchase a vehicle in the 40-50k range.... would they choose this vehicle? Just wanted to see if there was anybody else out there thats around my age whippin this around rather than say an X5. |

I do own the vehicle and needed the help of my parents as gaurantor. I put down 22k of MY OWN MONEY for down payment.

Good for you, nyc. Glad to hear it. Please understand that many will be skeptical that teenagers can afford an MDX. I must admit that I cringed slightly when I saw this thread b/c I consider myself very fortunate to be able to afford an MDX at this point in my life (and I am 33, got the base model and had to agonize about stretching by budget at that :D ). Thus it's somewhat tough to swallow knowing an 18-year old has an X with all the options purchased completely by his or her parents (not your case). Human nature I guess. In the end, it doesn't make me value my X less and I am very happy with it. Actually, it's kind of cool that younger persons are attracted to the X! No minivan wannabe! Great to see that you worked hard and saved to get what you wanted. Enjoy the ride.;) |

Yup, I'm 22 and paid for most all of my '03 MDX. (hey, I'll admit that my parents gave me a good bit of graduation money) Heh, I definitely couldn't afford to make car payments if I was saddled with a mortgage.. maybe someday I can pay off my 'X and not have to live in such a cheap apartment :p |

I'm 23 and paid (actually am paying) for my X by myself. I also recently bought a new condo so I got crazy bills on the first of the month.

What's your point in starting your explanation with lol (lots-of-laughs)?
I see nothing funny about a 16 year promoting and marketing nightclubs - the drinking age is 21!!! I do not even see how an 18 year old can do this. I'm glad you could save up some money working, but pardon me for failing to see any humor in your deception and chosen line of work at your age. |

MSU,
Give the kid a break, the clubs might be non-alcoholic establishments. . . when I was 18, I didn't have two nickels to rub together.
However, one could argue that if the young man had placed that into his home/condo downpayment, 5 years from now, he'd have established a nice nest egg rather than a 5 year old X.
To each his own. |

He was the one who wrote that the owners did not know his true age - implying that if they did he'd have no job. Again I see no humor nor anything honorable about lying/deception and apparently he thinks it is funny:rolleyes:
It would be interesting to know just what type and even which nightclubs he worked for. FYI in the Houston area non-alcoholic clubs for teens are NOT referred to as nightclubs. |

I guess you have never been to NYC? If you have then you wouldn't be stating this. Don't even play me, I worked hard at what I do and never did I come across a point in my career where I had to LIE about my age. (It just so happens that people dont ASK about your personal life when your only involved with them in business aspects)
When I first got involved with this whole club scene, it was when I was 16 and brought up by a young entrepeneur himself, Luis Kain. He helped me work the fields of marketing as well as NYC NIGHTLIFE PRODUCTION. Age did not come into a factor at what I did so it was never relivant for me to state this to any of the club owners I was in business with.
Perhaps your a law enforcement agent or even worse, maybe your just a little jealous.
The reason I said "lol" was to respond to laborlitigator's question. Not to find any humor.
Peace. |

Are you threatening me? I have one question: Is what you do legal for a 16 year old in NYC to do? Or is what you do, as a 16 year old, something you have to hide from a law enforcement agent? By the way for Income Taxes, FICA Taxes, Medicaid, etc to be withheld they DO HAVE to ask you your age - ITS THE LAW! Unless you were a self-employed contractor they HAVE to have a W-4, with SS and your age - ITS THE LAW! If you are a self-employed independant contractor then you must give them your personal or business Tax ID number and you have to file quarterly taxes using form 1040ES. Unless this is a cash only job under the table??
Peace to you too, but I am not impressed by what I have been reading! If what you did, again as a 16-17, year old was perfectly legal then why all this game playing:rolleyes: Why is the government shutting down legal establishments employing 16 year olds in healthy respectful after school jobs:confused: |

I own a '99 BMW 330i, '02 MDX, '02 YAMAHA YZF-R6. Hold a mortgage on a house that costs $425,000(and a sick entertainment system including a 40 inch plasma). On top of that one very high maintenance girlfriend of about 3 years now. I am 22 just out of college. Everything I paid for 'cept for the Bimmer, that was a highschool graduation present. | OK, I will be next. I feared this might happen in this thread. I think it's natural to have some envy/ill will/whatever if someone younger gets a gift/support/whatever of something for which other people have had to work years and years. That said, life is not fair. I can easily accept that others are more fortunate, especially if they at least had to work to get there. In nyc's case, he worked for it and saved up some money - good for him (or her). nyc certainly could have done worse things to make money. Let's lighten up a bit and enjoy our prosperity and we are all lucky to afford or have such a vehicle. Oops, caught myself rambing on again.:) |

I only chimed in when I read what I "perceived" to be someone who obtained a bunch of money in a "possibly" illegal way and had the gall to gloat about it!! IF I am mistaken then I sincerily apologize.
Yet I still cannot fanthom any other conclusion from the info you have provided:

My kids filed and PAID taxes to the IRS at 16 and 17!! All it takes is ~$6000 to owe the government some money. Since you have been working since 16 and made over $22k in those 2+ years you had to have averaged at least $8K per year - the law requires annual filing. I am puzzled why you began filing at 18 and not 16 or 17:confused:
As I said I have absolutely nothing against your age (ask JL889). But it appears from what I read that the money is somewhat suspect. As I've already said I chimed in because I am against gloating in the circumstances that seem evident from your posts. If that offends you or anyone else here I apologize.

MSU,
You are right! In this case I think both (physical and maturity young), as was the case with RobSJ .
We all have met very young (age) people that were very mature for their age, and also the older ages that had the maturity level of pre-teens. |

WOW! Quite an interesting little thread we have going here, isn't it? I always wondered what the youngest age of our fellow MDXers was.....it seems 16 is it? And I thought I took that prize because I'm 22....ah well;) . I agree with many here that this thread has generated a lot of controversy and confrontational feelings, so let's just turn it into a "I own an MDX and it doesn't matter what age I am because it is a FABULOUS vehicle" thread:D .
I am impressed that so many young people, like myself, are able to save up such large amounts of money for the X. Personally, I saved about $10k in 11 months, borrowed $3k from my parents, and took out a 5-year loan for the rest when I bought my X last Nov. I am lucky that I can live at home and do not have any other expenses, otherwise the X would not be an option right now. So here's to all of us on this board, young or old (like 30 I mean:2: ....hehehehe just kidding!!), proud owners of the best SUV out there!:4: |

Hey whosoever decides to read this...
This whole age thing is really... asking for controversy in my opinion, as far as it goes. While I have my own opinions and doubts about being so well off at such an age, seems like a dream for me when I am 18. I am in grade 9 currently. I have an 89% average, and I am 14 (fourteen) years old. I don't usually talk on these forums, because I know someone, when they find out that I am only 14, they will surely comment on my age or something. I am not one of the people with the mindset of modifying cars. I am not planning on being one of the people who will ever become a heavy modifier with a coffee-can exhaust, but I just would simply like to have a good car, one which I am proud of. I am part of the Acura-TL, and Acura-CL forums, this one, and even some other carmaker's brandnames.
The reason why I like Acura so much is because they make an astounding product for the price in Canada. I compare Acura to Lexus, and the flagship RL sedan to the GS sedan or LS -- each priced between about 70-100 K. The Acura RL is only 55 grand. I am not saying I can even afford a $ 100 car, or even hold a liscence. I just know my cars really really well. I know more characteristics about the MDX, and that's why, as upscale SUV, if ever my parents were looking for a new truck, I'd highly recommend the Acura MDX. It is an excellent vehicle, as well as has many toys for me to play with, but that's another story.
I do not wish to take sides, promote a flaming of someone, or anything. I am not a person with many posts, but I try to speak the truth here. This person, whom I don't even know, is coming here, saying he has a BMW -- which alone, for me, would be a dream to me, but on top, he has an MDX -- at least 50 grand down the tube, and a $475,000 house. When I go down to Tim Hortons (The equivalent of Krispy Kreme, or however it is spelt) I hesitate buying $4.75 worth of doughnuts... As you may be able to see, I get allowance from my parents... I don't have a job right now. Even now, you may all still think... this kid's only 14... what does he know... I would feel the same way were a six year old trying to preach to me what he felt was the way the world should be run. I am NOT trying to make enemies here, and I hope no one flames me for it. I just can't help notice the reaction people will get when they either hear a 14 year old talking, their immediate reaction of anyone under 20 years of age is that they are not "of age." When I'm with my parents and they are driving, even the people with the nicest cars can be the dumbest drivers. The internet is a sort of place someone can express their dream. Sure... My name is Yusuf.... I am a 14 year old multi-millionnaire, I own ten cars, five houses, and seven wives. How will this harm me? It won't people here will think I'm simply full of myself. Sure, I'd love a lavish life, and own an MDX when i'm older, but I wouldn't mind something lesser, especially right now -- especially something without the constraint of premium fuel, when gas prices are sky high.
This is not something I wish to be flamed for, nor do I wish to make enemies for. I sincerely wish to apologize if I have happenned to offend someone. I simply find that in certain aspects, first, a valid driver's license helps, but age does not affect anything. An MDX is rated as a premium upscale vehicle, as I recall, correct me if I'm wrong, but these types of vehicles are NOT usually found in an 18 year old's list of things he owns. If things were like that, I would love it, and would feverishly await my 18th birthday, do whatever it took to become of age, but face it. The MDX is an upscale vehicle. I simply know my cars well, since cars is a big intrest of mine, and I find these types of things -- any aspect of a car -- to be interesting, and want to know how it works. I know the prices as well. I do not see in technicolour. I know incomes, and other responsibilities, and other bills to pay than a car. The most I own is my Trek mountain bike -- 6500 ZX.
I thank you all sincerely for taking the time to read my post, and once again, hope I have not offended anyone, or bothered anyone by my post. |

Wow, I was going to quote all that but it covers so much real estate!
Your points are well taken. I don't question anyone's qualifications (are there any?) with regards to age, gender, experience, or knowledge.
I think we run the full gamut here on the forum and that's largely what makes it interesting.
Anybody can contribute within the guidlines set forth by the administrator as far as I know.
I wish there was something like this when I was your age, and also very much car crazy! What cars you have, your budget to spend on them, etc. is all your business. We don't need to know all that. Just join in and contribute and learn what you can. We share an enjoyment of the MDX as our main or 2nd vehicle. That's what brings us together. |
