I was just ready to change my AFT and VTM-4 fluid for 30K today. Had all the parts except for the various washers so I went down to Stevens Creek Acura in San Jose to get them. The parts guy quoted me $16.42 for the following:
3 18mm - about two bucks a piece
2 20mm - two something a piece
1 24mm - four something
After I heard him I was in shock and left without buying them. Do you know what the 'real price' should be or is this really how much Acura charges for washers?
Or perhaps Stevens Creek Acura (known to play dirty tricks in the sales dept) has gotten some sales people working in the parts dept. Maybe I should have just gone to another dealership.
Thanks for your input. |

Well, you learned a hard lesson that fortunately was not too expensive. In the Bay Area, SC Aura is NOT the place to go. Look at their rating on this website!!!

Especially the couple of high ratings, which tell me a 'mole' has been planted on this forum. |

I just bought a 20mm for 66 cents. I bought this so I could check the fluid level only in the future so I did not buy the 18mm. Why would the 18mm be more than the 20?
GGMDX that dealer was overcharging you for those washers. Find a new dealer for future purchases and service. |

Well, I knew about their bad sales practice but I didn't think it would spill over to parts. |

I didn't buy them there and sware will never go back to Stevens Creek again.
Anyone else who takes your car there better read your invoices to make sure they didn't screw you. |

Personally, if they are playing games in sales, I would not give them any business, unless I just could not get parts elsewhere, but there is always 'online'. |

GGMDX,
I just bought my 18 mm and 20 mm crush washers from my dealer. Like you, I am planning to do my own VTM-Fluid change. The crush washers were about $.35 each. Just say "No!" to rip-off pricing and buy your parts from someone else. Your hard-earned dollars are good anywhere in the USA. |

That's a pretty good deal @35c ea, Excalibur. Regardless of size, too? I checked an old 7500 service @ Acura and they charged 2.16 for the 18mm and .63 for the 20mm. The prices in my previous post were for the local Honda dealer where I bought @ the parts dept.
BaldEagle - no idea why different sized washers are different $; obviously not material content since smaller is more in this case. Perhaps lower volume or not shared across the H/A line. |

OK, went over to the Honda dealer today and get the washers. They were much cheaper. $1.63 for the 18mm and $.79 for the 20mm.
Saw someone's post on the 30K and noticed LG Acura also charged a lot for the various washers. Maybe all Bay area Acura dealers are over charging. |

| We bought our MDX from Prestige Acura of Santa Rosa. When I went in to buy the "special" oil for the diff. the parts man asked if I had gotten the washers yet to do all the oil service. I had not and he reached into a cabinet and handed me a half dozen of each! Now thats what I call a service dept. He also said if I had any questions servicing to be sure to give him a call. That same kind of attitude was what we received when dealing with the sales dept...great place to do business. |

GGMDX,
Just wanted to be sure about the price I paid for my crush washers, so I pulled out my invoice. I stand corrected on the price I paid:
94109-14000 14 mm Crush Washer .24
90471-PX-000 18 mm Crush Washer 1.55
94109-20000 20 mm Crush Washer .46
Maybe I should buy from Presten's dealer in the future. Free Crush Washers...it doesn't get any better than that! :) |

Just FYI...
Back when the MDX was first introduced, (Oct 2000) there was a bit of a 'hullabalu' over accessory pricing:
Seems that Acura had posted their 'estimated MSRPs' for all the optional, dealer accessories... problem was that all the dealers had set their own pricing at twice what Acura said list would be.
On complaining with one dealer over the discrepancy between the website and what he was charging, he became defensive and let slip to me that it wasn't his fault, but that 'the regional Acura rep had sat down with us and helped us set the prices'....
Dealers are free to set prices, but Acura, if they are truly an 'independent manufacturer' is not supposed to collude with the dealers to set pricing.
In any event, the website pricing came down within a week, to be replaced with the higher prices you see, with all the fine print attached.
Seems the dealers weren't happy with gouging you on the $3-5k over MSRP that the SF bay area dealers were asking, and needed a bit more...
Ard
PS... it really isn't solely a SFBay area thing, they are just more blatant. |
