Anybody know is the GPS antenna prewired on the 03 Touring model (without Nav system)?
DaleB
I don't know about the 03, but the 01-02 service manual show the GPS antenna as part of the total Navigation assembly, for navigation models.
The antenna is just under the top-center of the console just behind the A/C control and center vents (works fine through plastic), sitting on top of the Navigation electronics. It is not installed as part of the rear roof antenna as many have thought.

I was concerned about the location of the GPS antenna on the 2003 MDX. If the antenna is under the center of the dash I would have a possible problem placing my Valentine radar detector there. I have the service manual but there is only info about the roof mount antenna and no mention of the GPS. The Nav manual that came with the car cautions you to avoid placing packages on the center of the package shelf. What package shelf? Sounds more like my TLS. I called Acura and was told that the GPS on the MDX shares the roof antenna. Hope this clears the antenna issue up.:)

Either they changed the location for the 2003 or Acura does not know what they are talking about (would not totally surprise me). Anybody else check this out?

It makes sense of sharing the roof antenna. Otherwise it may have receiving problem when driving through high rised building area.

I don't have nav system on my 03 model. I am thinking to get a Pocket PC w/Co-pilot GPS. It will be nice if I can connect it to the roof antenna to get better GPS signal.

I agree it makes sense, and if you do some searches on old posts many of us were surprised the antenna was not located there on the 01-02 models. Maybe someone has an 03 service manual and can verify the location.

I have the service manual for the 2003 MDX. It does not cover the NAV system at all. That is why I called Acura. To make sure they were correct I will try putting a piece of aluminum foil over the center of the dash and see if it affects the reception.

BTW the 01 and 02 Electrical manual also shows the physical location in the dash. Not sure they have a similar manual for the 03.
If aluminum foil on the dash does not affect the navigator, you may want to put some on the roof antenna, to demonstrate that it does block the signals in that location.

According to Acura's online parts schematics, the 03 GPS antenna assembly is seperate from the roof mount antenna and is still mounted above the radio stack.

Just a clarification. Does schematic indicate GPS receiver or GPS antenna?
TheWorm
islander, the receiver is an integrated part of the Nav unit/assembly; the antenna is seperate with a sep wiring harness.

It does not appear from the parts diagrams that the antenna assy is in a non-Nav equipped vehicle.

Thanks for the clarification.
