Did anyone watch this fascinating show? To me this was the reality show. It portrayed the WWII pact of Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin. I thought the lead actors did a fine job in their roles.
It provided some insight as to what these three had as their goals aside from winning the war. The time dictated the gravity of their job. They truly saw themselves as re-establishing world order for lasting peace. Stalin, as much of a butcher as he was, was also quite a strategist. Roosevelt endured his personal fatal illness while dealing with the mental anguish of the war. Churchill was, IMO, the more cerebral of the three.
The thing that stood out for me was that regardless of what you may hear of these men in history books or from historical newsreel propoganda, is that they were true statesmen, something the world seems to be seriously lacking right now. Think about it, who is the last true statesman you can recall?
Another thing the show presented, was that the U.N was an American idea (somebody correct me if I'm wrong here,) promoted by Roosevelt at Yalta. I wonder if he would still feel the same way about it today.
Good grief, I sound like a history exam. Sorry for ranting on, but I thought the show was well done. |
