Can someone tell me how you remove the "wood trim" around the navi unit and also is the trim around the shifter removable? I would like to get a nicer switch for the navi converter and mount the switch in one of those places.

I'm not sure about the piece around the NAV, but the piece around the shifter is very easy. First you need to pop the chrome piece around the shifter out (using a small flat screwdriver and just gingerly going around the edge). Once that's out, the whole 'plood' piece should pop right up, using the same technique.
