Installed the Acura chrome side steps, and roof rack over the weekend. Had Discount Tire add 18" wheels (Fondmetal Tech 4) and tires (Kumho Ecsta's) yesterday.
Tires are a bit noisier, but ride, drive, and track well. I guess I'll need to work on the sound system next so I can turn it up a bit without hurting my ears!! |

Nice ride and welcome to the forum.
Could you please post some more pictures with side steps. I have the same color and want to see how does it look with Chrome Side Steps, so some side views would be nice, also can see your new wheels and tyres.
Thanks. |

Hi Dave:
___Give us a side shot ;) Beautiful X with those wheels …
___As for the other stuff, I contacted ngobros2000 of the E-Bay chrome rim auction fame and will make a deal with him although it will be a bit more expensive on my end :(
___Don't forget to offer the 03 Premium’s w/ tires up in the classifieds as well …
___Good Luck

Hi xcel:
Let us know what kind of deal ngobros2000 will be providing. My dealer is quoting $1495 (with exchange) for a set of OEM chrome wheels! |

Hi Wazowski:
___I have won just about every Ngobros Chromed 03 MDX wheel auction going back over the last 2 months for anywhere from $315 - $810 + shipping and he still wouldn’t budge off his “Buy it Now” $1K – $1.1K price (that was until Dale offered me his 03 Premium’s with tires and to drive to a HQ Chromer 2 hours North of his present location …). I offered Ngobros $1449 for the 03 Chromed Premium wheels and chromed Acura center caps, a set of 4 Michelin Cross-Terrains with just 20 miles on them, mounted, balanced, and shipped. I have an E-Mail that he accepted those terms. It is not quite as good as Dale’s offer but at least he (Dale) won’t have to drive up to North LA to drop off his Premium Rims and tires. Ngobros offers the OEM to Chromed rim swap service if that helps you in any way. I did not however ask him how much.
___As for Dale’s deal, I was going to purchase Dale’s rim’s and tires outright and have Wesco in North Hills do the Chrome plating. They were going to setup Dale’s Premium/Base rims after chroming with the original GoodYear Integrity’s mounted, balanced, packaged, and shipped for $660.00 ($540 not including the shipping). Dales offer would have saved me considerably more than Ngobros.
___In any case, you can save quite a bit more than what your dealer is trying to take you for … I will soon have a brand new (for all intents and purposes) set of Chromed 03 Premium rims w/ Michelin Cross Terrains for late spring/summer/early fall use and my original 03 Touring rims with Michelin Cross-Terrains for winter time uses for the $1449. Since I have to do the swap anyway, it comes at an almost natural time for a tire rotation and I have a good 120,000 miles worth of rubber to burn off in the process.
___And a public apology to Dale for not only passing on his great 03 Premium rim and tire offer but for hijacking the thread of his X! If any of you are interested in Dale’s 03 Premium rims and tires and live in southern CA, he has a great offer for you as either Full Size Spares or as a complete set ready to go I am sure!
PS: Anyone in northern to central IL./south - south central WI. want to trade their 03 (non-Chromed) Premium’s for my 03 (non-Chromed) Touring’s even up? I would even throw in the $50.00 for the re-mounting and balancing of your GoodYear Integrity's on the Touring rims!
___Good Luck

| Very nice, what's the size of those tires??? |

255-55-18's The wheels are 8" wide, but I believe 255 is the equivalent of 10" in width of the tire, at it's widest point. That was the widest tire recommended for that wheel.
Plusses: It looks 100% better. Handling is noticibly better (these are performance tires), I suspect emergency stopping would be better (MDX's are known for the long travel before stopping in emergencies).
Negatives: More tire noise. The X isn't that good at eliminating tire rumble to begin with, and putting on larger, performance tires, increases that rumble. I have about 6K miles on them now, and they aren't bad yet, but suspect they will get noisier as time goes on. I've since added a custom exhaust :D, so I can drown out noises in the future anyway! |
