I have custom reverse-glow silver & chrome gauges. Pics can be found at Daddy's Rides under MDX in cardomain.com This happens to be my favorite mods, even more then my navi conversion. The gauges are so bright that other drivers slow down and pull along side, trying to look inside. Lots of people screw this mod up because the needles are so sensitive they can snap or become uncalibrated even if done with caution. If the gauges get screwed up, you have to salvage gauges from another MDX.
Half way through the install I was thinking "why did I get myself into this?" I thought the needles were going to be uncalibrated for sure. Once it was all done and everything was working fine, it was a huge relief. Its a gamble, and I felt uncomfortable with the install even with the help of a friend whose a pro. My gauges I believe come from a combination of other car gauges that have been modified. |

| Slickrick, I haven't seen a overlay gauge kit that doesn't require removing the needle off. Unless you are willing to cut the face from the center hole out. I'm sure that's gonna look gay. :D |

Slickrick, I was just trying to help you out. I think you are the one who needs to do your homework. I think everyone this forum will agree with me that all overlays are plastic pieces that is placed on top of your existing guage face. Therefore, ALL of them has a hole where the needle's center post needs to pass through. You don't see the hole on your picture because that black circle where the needle itself is attached is in fact covering it. Now, if you are referring to gauge cluster replacement, that's another ball game.
If you read my last post carefully then you would realize that what I was referring to as gay was the fact that you will have to cut the face itself from the center hole to the outside edge like a pie so the overlay can be slipped into place without removing the needle from the center post. Having that slit mark on the gauge will definitely look gay. I am not calling the white-face gauge idea gay.
Just clarifying my message,

Hey Pilot,
I'm sure that there are any number of adjectives more appropriate than the word 'gay' to show your negative feelings on this board! Please try to be a bit more considerate to ALL of the members here.
Times are hard enough without throwing around racial epithets and derogatory slang terms.

I apologize to the board for using the "g" word to describe a negative conotation. It never occured to me that this particular word will offend anybody.
Slickrick, let me re-phrase my message: Having a cut mark across the gauge face will definitely look ugly.
Again, I didn't intend to offend anybody. |

There are NO seams with the overlays its all just one solid sheet per gauge. (depending on set up)
I'll try and get a better pic to show you.. |

The gauges in the X are not a single sheet like the Ford Explorer's gauges. The gauges in the X are all individual. My RPM and Speedometer gauges are overlays with small holes in the middle, no slits. The Gas and Temp gauge was two parts and a lot more complicated then the other guages.
MTNMDX's "example" is very offensive |

I think I know what you're talking about, Slickrick. I did this on my daily driver partly because my gauges are orange and is not very visible in daylight. With the white-faced gauges, I was able to read the gauges better. The ones that I used just go over the existing face and it had pre-cut holes in the middle where you can slip the needles through.
Having said, that I have not seen a kit for the MDX. :( Have you looked at the TL/CL gauges, maybe there's kit for those and you can use those. |

Yeah i like the look of it in stead of the black on black it kinda breaks it up a little bit.
Thanks Again For The Update. |
