| Any website out there for discount BA speakers? Checked with Boston website and my local dealers. Prices are the same so I assume that there are no discount places out there to get BA car speakers?? |

| You might try ebay or ubid, and the like. They are a rare commodity. |

GOOD LUCK
THEY ARE REGULATED VERY WELL
The price is fixed and there is no grey market for them(internet based dealers) .
On the other hand MB Quartz has a huge grey market |

I would watch out for internet sales on electronics as well. Check to make sure they are not B-stock or reconditioned. Personally there is nothing wrong with B-stock or reconditioned (or shouldn't be) but just make sure you get what you want and they back it up once you purchase it from them. Sometimes the cheapest route is not always the best route when it comes to electronics. You can usually work a pretty good deal with the stereo shop when you purchase. FYI, most electronics were on a 80-100 point margin (ie store cost is $50 and MSRP is $100). There is a lot to play with.
One thing to consider though, if you go to a stereo shop for information and take their time to have them explain things to you, strongly consider buying from them and not the internet. Having sold audio equipment in an exclusive shop, nothing puts a sour taste in your mouth more than someone taking your time to get info then buying off the internet because it was a little cheaper. My boss got to the point where if warranty work was needed on a piece of equipment someone purchased off the internet, he would tell them to contact the dealer they bought it from. Not saying this is right or wrong, or shopping the internet is right or wrong, just giving my 2 cents worth and only charging you 1 cent. |

| Open box, or B condition possible, but 'reconditioned' car door speakers is highly unlikely. |

| Once again, you never know Dale. However, I agree the chances of this happening are unlikely. A person can always use Epinions to check on the dealer. Since the internet has come around, the day of "the guy selling stereo equipment out of the back of the van" have just about vanished. Need to check with the manufacturer to see if they honor a warranty sold over the internet. Diamond Audio, Memphis Audio, and a few others dont. They have exclusive dealers and are quality products (not to say that others are not) Caveat Emptor (one of my favorite lines from the Brady Bunch) Ok, also the episode where they keep saying "Mom always said "dont play ball in the house"". |

I ended up buying my BA 10.5LF from a local Tweeter only because I couldn't find anyone else selling them. The sub is the ONLY item I DIDN'T buy through the internet and it bothered me to have to pay retail as much as it did to pay MSRP for the car. Much the same, I'm glad to have been able to do so to get what I wanted.
Most of my A/V items were purchased through onlinecarstereo.com. |

For clarification:
It would just not be cost effective to rebuild speakers. If you had say a home system, and a driver (individual speaker) burned out, etc. Under warranty or not, the most likely repair would simply be replacing it.
Don't confuse this with 'reconing' some older classic speakers where the surround of the cone has deteriorated. They even sell DIY kits for that purpose. |

My method with BA Pro's was to simply ask for $50 off a $400 dollar pair, especially if I buy two pairs. I did this at 3 different places and have never been refused. These are not speakers that most customers are in a position to buy, and do not move quickly. It doesn't help the dealer to have them sitting around for 5 or 8 months. I would expect a 10% discount even if you only buy one pair. Doesn't hurt to ask.
Plus, I wouldn't bother looking for used ones on the net or the local recycling papers; people don't sell used, high-end BA speakers because not only do they last seemingly forever, but what would you upgrade them with? People tend to keep them for their next car. |
