Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the OEM MDX roof rack (cross bars) made out of aluminum? |

yes and no.
Mount towers are cast aluminum.
Crossbars are heavy gauge steel.
Other than super huge round tube racks, such as on the Xterra, I've never seen an aluminum crossbar. A pair would generally need to be able to support 165-200 lbs. Aero-shaped aluminum wouldn't cut it, unless you make it solid, in which case you negate the benefits of using aluminum. |
