When the RES is on, but not using the speakers for the sound, the stereo (i.e. cd, am or fm) sound is a bit muffled. Anyone notice this?

Yes, but that's because the rear speakers turn off automatically. If you press and hold the Pwr Button for the rear, the speakers (rear) will turn back on.
