In a recent Road and track article, Peter Egan quotes his brother as saying "Am I the last male in America who wants a car rather than an SUV?"
"I don't get it. These things aren't any fun to drive! They handle like trucks and don't get any better gas mileage than my Jaguar."
I was thinking about this article today as I was serpentining my way down the Interstate on my way to work, watching the trip computer calculate 17.1 MPG city. And again as I accelerated past other drivers as I merged onto the Interstate back home. And he lives in Nashville!
The 2003 Acura MDX is something special. It drives like a sport sedan and has the size of an Explorer. I'm sorry Peter, but this SUV is no ordinary SUV. Plush, yet firm. Big, yet powerful. 260 screaming VTEC horsepower proclaim this the best SUV ever designed. |

Hi Rick414:
___In all actuality, I too like sedans more than the SUV’s. The fact that they are usually quieter and they are usually much more fuel efficient is a big plus. I do wish the great sedans of the world would get more gas mileage however … The new Accord and last years Camry w/ autos are getting 33/32 hwy respectively with the fours which is a big plus in my eyes but its not enough. That being said, my 03 Toyota Corolla LE needs quite a bit more luxury and a huge increase in size to compete with the look and feel of the X. In defense of the Corolla sedan, 37 mpg with 70 – 80 mph hwy type driving after the last fill up doesn’t hurt one bit ;)

| I drive an Acura TL type S on a daily basis (the X is the wife's) because I too love the quieter ride, the more agile handling, and the speed, yes the speed -- oh, how addicting is that speed! However, I do agree that the X is a close second -- I had a 1995 Isuzu Trooper (loved it!) and it was like driving a truck, the X is like a cross between the Trooper and my TL-S. |
