My MDX is coming in this Tuesday do you guys think its worth it to get the side moldings installed. I noticed in a lot of pics that no one has them. Are door dings that frequent without them?

Im already going to install the 5000k HID on Wednesday I got the kit from Xenon Depot on the group buy.

BSM's are very popular here. A poll last year indicated about 50% of members have them or are going to get them.

I don't own them. Don't like the way they look and IMHO they offer only minimum protection at best because of their small size and the shape of the MDX.

I have been very selective about where I park and have not received dings in the parking lots. Got one in the garage (wife's car back door) and the BSM's would not have prevented it.

I ordered mine online and put them on myself. It's very easy - probably took me about 30 minutes total. I think they add a lot to the lines of the car. Here's a link of mine:

it doesn't really show the BSM entirely but you'll get the idea. I love the results.

I think they make the X look a lot better. I didnt like the plain siding. Check out the pics of my X in my signature.

I don't know what color your MDX is, but if it's white, I would NOT get the moldings. Several people, including myself, have reported that the white moldings are no longer white anymore. I've had mine on for about a year and they now look a little dingy-- yellowish. It's not horrible looking, but I'm thinking of removing mine.

I have black. Any word on how the black mouldings are holding up? I am leaning towards getting them not for the looks, but for protection. If they don't add too much value towards protection, I prefer to leave as is.

I have a Tafetta White MDX, ordered my BSM's from Tim at Hondacuraworld, and installed them myself. Last time I checked, the BSM's were still white. YMMV.:4:

The way I see it, BSM's do offer some measure of protection, and that is better than no protection at all.

I understand. But I know I'm not the only one who has had a problem with them becoming discolored over time. I also got mine from Tim, so I know there's not a product difference. I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the weather elements one's MDX is exposed to (lots of snow vs. milder weather)--- I live in upstate NY where this winter has been pretty brutal. Whatever the reason, I'll remove mine when I get up the nerve.

dmyles,

Maybe the weather and exposure to other hazmats must affect your BSM's. Have you tried applying some type of cleaner wax or polish to the discolored BSM's. I usually apply Finish 2001 and that seems to keep them looking like new.

Have mine, don't like the look 100%

However, it did safe my right back door some paint when some dumb $#@$# must have kick the shopping cart into my MDX, and took out a big chunk of the body side moding..

Can't imaging if I didn't have it, what would the door look..

I got it for the funtion, not look.

It is not that ugly to put on.

I have black ones and they do not match the paint at all! The paint looks cheap and unfinished.

However, you have to get real close to see the flaws! Due to the protection they offer, pluss they look good (from far away) I would buy them again.

I had on my 02. they are cheap for the money paid and offer little protection. Plus, they do fade because finish is not same high quality as factory paint with clearcoat. If put on at buying car they have 50k warranty. otherwise one year. not worth it on my 03 silver.

Is the $110 price for a set for both sides or do you need two ($220/car)?

$110 is a set for both sides. To be effective because of the shape of the X and small size of the BSM's maybe 3 or 4 sets would be the way to go.:jester: :19:

Any tips to putting these on so that it doesn't look like my 7-year-old did it? I have been known to have less than stellar results with some of my projects...

Try using the search feature. Try "molding installation", I found several usefull discussions.

Here's a URL to the BSM factory installation procedure guide. It's pretty straight forward and the templates make it near-idiot proof.

Good luck.
