I have checked the manual but unable to find answer.

Are the fog lights adjustable and if so, how?

Thanks.

I don't belive so.
Warzau
Just checked and cannot find any adjusting screws.
JeffK
Dear Warzau:

I couldn't find any adjustment screws either.

Thought about taking the lamp out and looking in the back, but seems a lot of work if in fact there are no adjustment screws.

The manual describes how to remove the lamps, but in practice catching the screw and then replacing it looks far more difficult than it is shown in the manual.

Here is the info on replacement/adjustment

Dear Warzau:

Thank you and thank NORCALCHUCK!

One final question and observation:

It would seem that to adjust the fog lights I would not have to take the unit out. Please confirm.

Is the adjustment made with a torques screwdriver?

can you send it to me as an attachment so that I can print it?

Thanks.

Jeff:
It's very easy to remove a fog light, the second time. Use a 10 mm socket with a 4-6 inch extension. Screw comes right out, and light pops out right after.
To re-insert the screw, use a small piece of masking tape to hold the screw into the socket. Screw it in, pull off socket. This keeps the screw from falling into hidden places.
Using a flashlight helps locate the adjustment screw initially. It's in the bottom hole of the grille to the inside of the foglight.

As an aside, as the adjustment instructions mention setting in accord with local requirements, for those interested, note that in California, the legal requirements for front fog lamps is that they must be mounted not less than 12 inches or more than 30 inches from the roadway and aimed so that when the vehicle is not loaded, none of the high intensity portion of the light (they don't define "high intensity portion") of the light to the left of the center of the vehicle shall at a distance of 25 feet ahead project higher than a level of four inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes.

California Vehicle Code section 24403.

Interestingly, under that definition, one could apparently aim the right lamp much higher, so as to illuminate the side of the roadway at a higher level. Could be very helpful in snow or off-road conditions so as to see the right shoulder better

I presume other states have similar laws. Might want to check before fooling with the factory set adjustment.

JeffK,

i'm glad you asked this question. i didn't know they could be adjusted. i believe that the fogs should be directed to illuminate off to the side and down i.e. curbs, road markings.

i have removed the foglights to put in xenon bulbs. i used a long craftsman socket with extension. i did drop the bolt once or twice. some members have been able to reach the bulb from the back thru the engine compartment, but my arm can not fit. also to do it this way and not touch the glass of the bulb seems very difficult.

a great investment of about $2-3 can be found at your local auto store. it looks like an antenna, that can be made shorter or longer, with a strong magnet at the end to retrieve metal items from difficult to reach places. it has saved me many times.

good luck,

chris

The factory lamp in the foglights is the same lamp element as in the low beam headlights.
JeffK
You guys are great!

I am a bit clumsy, so usually I takes me three tries to get it right!

I have found that the fog lights are aimed about 10 to 15 feet in front of the car.

Now that might be useful, if we ran the fog lights without the low beams.

(There was a post on how to do this, but far to complicated for me to bother with)

So I like to use the fog lights as "auxiliary lights" and aim them just below the low beam.

Here in the East on rainy nights, the fogs give me that extra light that really helps.

My experience is that the adjustment is vertical not horizontal.

Has anyone been able to adjust the fogs without removing them?

Jeff

Can anyone also tell me how to adjust the headlights (low beam)?

Thanks.
JeffK
For everyone's information:

Just returned from the Acura dealer who took a fog light from stock for my examination.

The adjustment is done WITHOUT removal of the fog light by inserting a Phillips (medium size) screwdriver into the lower slot.

The screwdriver engages the ratchet and adjusts the vertical position of the fog light.

Cool, thanks for the info!
MDX350
how does one distinguish the slot for headlight adjustment from the slot for foglight adjustment?
JeffK
See post of norcalchuck above where he has posted a diagram. Very good and clear.
JeffK
Just bought an number 2 X 8 inch Philip's screwdriver at Sears Roebuck.

Adjustment took about 10 minutes.

Worthwhile, as setting from factory had the lights aimed far too low.

Good luck to all and thanks!

Thanks Jeff. Could you also post (approx.) how much you had to turn the screw to get it right, and how did you determine it was "right"? I have the same problem - the headlights from the factory are aimed FAR too low.
JeffK
Here's what I did:

Backed the car away from the garage door about 25/30 feet. (my garage door is white paneled)

Turned on low beams with fog lights.

Put towel over low beams so that just the beam from the fogs was on the garage door.

Raised the beams to about 6 to 8 inches below low beams. Made sure they were even.

Then rode tested, which I find is still the best way.

Then corrected as necessary.

I used a flashlight, shining on the fog lights, (keep hood open) to make sure my Phillips screwdriver was engaged properly.

It took many turns to raise the lights just 2 to 3 inches. It is a slow process - at first you will see very little movement.

Turning left to right - clockwise will raise the beam, counterclockwise will lower the beam.

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TURN - movement is slow!

Good luck!
