If god doesn't work try medication. A couple months back a guy in his 30s barged into a New Orleans church a couple miles away from me. The guy blasted the priest with a rifle in the middle of services because that priest molested him throughout his childhood. It still screws with one's mind 20 years later. |

Kinda make you think about being religious doesn't it??? One commits sins from Monday through Saturday and come in the House of God to ask a "priest" for foregiveness...And yet they called themselves righteous and living under the eyes of God....The very Priest they go to to share their most intimate feelings and thoughts maybe the same "representors/Messengers" of God that commits the most hideous sexual crimes...GOES against EVERYTHING that God want these leaders of religions to represent...
So I ask you...ARe you a religious person because you feel that going to listen to these priests, preachers, evangelists...and "righteous" leaders make you feel that you are religious and protected????
Remember this...live your life as a faithful person..live your life righteously...you are human you are entitled to sin and you are entitled to make mistakes...dont depend on a religion a sector and representor of a religion dictate your life...If you ever is doing anything wrong...Trust me...God will know about it...;) |

Fireblade,
I don't know about entitlements but we have free will. We can make choices. What these choices are is left to the individual. I think this thread could get out of hand pretty quickly (like the Iraqi War thread) so I will just leave it at that.:D |

I can't let this pass; many have the mistaken notion that sins must be confessed to another person (e.g. "priest") before they can be forgiven. Absolutely not true. Christian truth is supposedly found in the Bible - not in any church policy or words of men. The Bible says confess your sins to God and He will forgive them - we do not need a flawed sinful priest as a go-between. Thank goodness.
I Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."
PS: Happy Easter to everyone! |

Don't fool yourself into believing it won't happen - it will. They'll just be harder to spot and they find some other occupation that's based on trust and surrounds them with young boys. |

| I think the priest scandal opened the door. Around here we're seeing not only members of the clergy (all religions) but others who are placed (or place themsleves) in the position to be close to children such as coaches, teachers, etc. As long as there are people out there who take advantage of children, they will find a way. The problem with the catholic church is the cover-up! :twak: :1pat: |

| I am not Christian, I am Sikh, but if you would let me, I would like to say something. There needs to be a drastic change in some the "laws" of your religion. Celibacy needs to be done away with. Can someone give me reasoning for having this? Is it to keep the priest pure? What they do because of this isnt really pure. Every other religion allows a priest to have a wife and children. If that priest really did lead a good life, there wouldn't have to be any second-guessing about affairs and pre-marital sex. Someone needs to wake up and change this, because I see this as a big step to stop these molestations. Everybody has needs, so do priests. By doing this, you would stop a lot of other sins... If I have offended anyone, please forgive me. For more information on Sikhism... visit... www.sikhnet.com |

I am a Christian and Christian Truth is found in the Bible NOT in church tradition/policy!!
The Apostle Paul commended those in ministry who wished (personal choice) to remain single and thus TOTALLY devoted to the Lord. However in I Cor 7:9 he acknowledges that NOT all are cut out for that. Quoting we read, "But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn."
The Bible does not get any plainer than that!! Pastors, elders, priests, etc CAN marry according to the Bible, but NOT according to Catholic tradition!
Regarding church tradition/policy, Jesus rebuked the religious leaders of His day for putting tradition ahead of God's law:
Matthew 15:3 "And He answered and said to them, "Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?"
Matthew 15:6 "...And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition." |

| If the church doesn't want priests to marry, one little "snip" will take care of their urges and self-control. :22: :25: |

We take a young man, fill him with illusions, tell him he will always be poor and can never have sex the rest of his life.
And then we wonder why he gets quirky years later.
Next time you go for confession say, "You first." |

A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards.
The little boy asked why he wore his collar that way. The man, who was a priest, said, " I am a Father."
The little boy replied, "My Daddy doesn't wear his collar like that." The priest looked up from his book and answered "I am the Father of many."
The boy said, "My Dad has 4 boys, 4 girls and two grandchildren and he doesn't wear his collar that way." The priest, getting impatient, said, "I am the Father of hundreds" and went back to reading his book.
The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then leaned over and said, "Maybe you should wear your pants backwards instead of your collar." |
