I received my first Official Recall from Acura.
It affects the passengers Air Bag deployment in a low speed collision only.
The Acura dealer will install a sub-harness that corrects the miswiring.

Mostly affects SN:2HNYD1...1H500001 to 2HNYD1...1H505300. I got the recall and min MDXhas a slightly higer SN. Only affects some MDXs and is a wire going to the seat belt buckel. Look under the passenger seat
for a wire harness.
Bad Harness # = 81311-S3V-A30XX
Good Harness # = 81311-S3V-A31XX |

I got my "official" notice yesterday too. Too bad it was a few weeks after we heard about it on this system!
My dealership fixed it pretty quickly. At first the service guy who answered the phone had no idea of what we were talking about, but when he asked someone else he got the info on what they needed to fix the problem. |

When is a recall not a recall?
When it is an "Acura Product Update"!
Anybody notice the word "recall" is nowhere on the notice?
Spin, baby, spin

I noticed the lack of "recall" wording on the mailing, too.
Yep, it's a recall, even though it's a limited one. Unfortunately I've noticed a number of auto manufacturers doing the recall-without-saying-it's-a-recall thing. They're afraid of the bad press associated with the real attention-getting recalls (e.g. recalling half-a-million vehicles).
Hopefully no owner who is unaware of the "recall" is going to see the "product update" screaming on the envelope, think it's just some junk mail to sell more stuff, and toss it in the garbage. |

Actually, it is a clever way to help weed out the gene pool. :)
I just found the wording amusing, not really malevolent or deceptive.
(In my industry, if a product is recalled, you MUST state that in the letter.)
