I don't want to step on any toes. But I'm willing to step up to the plate. Here is my take on this huge thread.
Below is a simple (par admin) and readable die cut vinyl sticker in the 2 colors I'm willing to make - a metallic gold (not shiny like jewelry, more like auto paint) and a grey (my printer friend is looking into getting a metallic silver) . The black area represents the tinted window of the MDX and is not part of the sticker. The lettering is close to the acura logo but not exactly the same. I did the same look but it looked like just part of the tags from the factory. This font stands out more in my opinion.
I attached the clublexus sticker as an example of what ours would look like. I think white would look cheesy like those Calvin-peeing-on-the-Ford-logo(or what ever rival automaker's logo). Measurements can be up to 2 inches high and 11 inches wide. $5 delivered.
Admin if you find a better deal or you want to give this one away free, I'd be willing to arrange the making of these. Someone is collecting ad dollars here, this could be another source for that. Just PM me or email me.
OR if you want me to handle the whole thing, just give me the green light.

I don't want to insult and jeopardize 7plus' generosity and willingness to FINALLY get these for us, but I don't care for the typestyle/font on the latest revs, and think 11" is a bit big for this; the 8" we originally discussed (and the size they're using over @ clublexus.com) is more appealing to me.

No insult. I, like everyone in this thread, just want a sticker to let everyone know how great this site is (and would like it before Acura redesigns the MDX).
Only the beige and silver will work as die cuts. Remember, the vinyl will be one color, and whatever is cut away will be the black of the window tint. I think we should stay away from the logo to prevent any problems with Acura. Different colors will cost. My source says minimum 50 per color. I can't handle stocking that many stickers, unless Tim or Daniel is willing.
8" or any size is not a problem. The above can easily be reduced. The size was the quote I got. So smaller will have no effect on price. And the static inside sticker idea? I don't think it will work behind the dark tint. I understand that owners do not want to clutter up the MDX with permanent stickers but who is really going to take this on and off? If this goes on an exterior window, just get a razor blade to remove.
My printer told me he can also digital print on vinyl with one color. This is UV protected and is used for those stickers stuck on the side of trucks with their company name and logo. So sidewinder's design can be done - square, rectangle, oval, football, general overall shapes - can't be too complicated. Price will be the same, $5! delivered! And so now I must place my entry into the hat, my take on Sidewinder's. Overall dimensions 2"x7" and I like the idea of identifying members with a shape/design that can be recognized from a distance. (Sorry all for the new choice but I feel we are very, VERY close!) I will be back from a business trip to New Orleans on Thursday (MDX will stay home, darn!) so I will check back here, see what the FINAL response is, and if it's OK with admin, HAVE STICKERS AVAILABLE AFTER MEMORIAL DAY!!!!
So next Wednesday will be decision day! Make your choice from this page. There are 11 designs here: 1-2 die cuts at top, 3-10 digital in center(Worm), and this is #11 digital:

Got an idea... Why don't we add an additional $5 to the cost of the sticker for a worthwhile "charity"? Namely, a benefit fund for the Acura engineers to fix the ##%#@(** weeping mirrors!
Just got my beautiful new black MDX--you know the one--it has the watermarks running down the drivers and passenger side doors. :(
An ad campaign, perhaps, to encourage participation? "Save the Weeping Mirrors!"
Just a thought... :D

7plus,
I'd like to suggest that for any of the designs on this page, we consider them all as die cut -- basically, any of them with color background/multigrayscale graphics get "converted" to a die-cut compatible deal.
For example, 3-8 are all consolidated, the background color is removed, and they're all a die-cut with the font/logo only. 9 would be a white or silver die-cut; 10 and 11 would eliminate the background graphic and use the font (and border on 10) for die-cut, too.
Just suggesting this to eliminate confusion in voting -- and I think the die cut will look cleaner and classier -- a vinyl sticker with a graphic is screaming bumper-sticker and surfboard @ me :)

This is meant to be no way offensive to you whatsoever so please don't take it that way as you have created one hell of an owners forum!
I began this idea of some sort of a "sticker" or something to recognize members on the road months ago. In the meantime there have been some fantastic ideas. The biggest problem has been getting someone to execute the manufacture of getting the job done. Now, we finally have someone who has volunteered to pick up the ball and move forward. (Thanks 7plus!). It seems the ball has been taken back..
So now you have the ball Daniel, what's the status? If you run into a snag, maybe it's woth letting 7plus help..?
(..I'll probably get reemed for this one.. but Just want to see this thing go forward..). No offense intended.. |

I don't mind 7plus' help, and I do appreciate his efforts. My problem is that whatever proceeds (if any) come from this should go into improvement of this site. So here I go again: 7plus, if you have connections in the printing business and would like to help us out, I am willing to pay for a bundle (200?) of stickers that you can send to me (I'll pay for that too) and I will handle all the distribution. What do you say? |

This sticker thread is starting to look like Government Policy...Great ideas and no funding. Who's on first? ;)
Perhaps we should begin with the amount of money people are willing to pay? Like $5-$10. I think most of us have received at least $10 worth of info from this site, right?
So...Why not take a quick poll and see who is interested in sporting a sticker....or, if you don't want the sticker on your car, buy it anyway as a goodwill gesture for all the great information you've gained from this site. Consider the discounts you've received from Tim that you would NEVER otherwise have known about if Daniel hadn't set up this site. What have you saved in installing your own accessories? Think of all the fun you've had over the last 7 months...rah rah.
I think taking a serious poll of who's in for $10 make some sense... yes/no? This way Daniel has a good number for the initial "run". Daniel is entitled to profit and he can share some of the $$ with 7Plus for his design work. We can send checks with our member "name" attached, so someone can keep track of who's who. I can tell you from my personal email responses from that Sheepskin Seats thread that many, many people surf this site and NEVER post anything. So, I'd encourage Daniel to take a poll and post a mailing address...then wait for the checks.
Is this the answer to a "quicker sticker"?? :)

DANCALL-No egg on your face. Like you, I saw the sticker as supporting this site by making others aware of acuramdx.org. Isn't one of the goals of a web site is to get as much traffic (hits) as possible? In this way, I would be helping "improve" the site by getting more members. I didn't see my efforts as profiting from this site. If I did the sticker, I would have priced it just enough to cover my cost, gas, and a little computer time. I probably would have made them available until the 50 I ordered were all gone. So sad it has taken so long.
BOOMER-There will be enough to go around.

No one can argue with the size or design. Yes, very simple and you WILL recognize it . You see this logo in the upper left corner everytime you log on. Admin will have details on price and ordering.

I'm sure everyone that have submitted the design have contributed their share of time and effort. Are we going to just ignore those designs? What happened to the vote? If we're going to do this lets do it right. Why not put the designs to a vote and give the members an opportunity to voice their opinion. After all, is it not the members that make the board what it is today(admin being a BIG part of course). This is my opinion and if everyone likes the latest design and just don't want to bother with this, I will go with the majority and fully support it. |

This is still possible but putting up the design to a vote was the biggest problem for this whole thing. A contest needed to be organized better, ie objective, layout, color, size, DEADLINES, etc... The way it was set up invited the never ending thread. Another sticker can always be done. This was the fastest way to have a sticker done.
Design is SO subjective! Just like you may not like the sticker that is being made, others will like it. If your sticker was produced, there would be people who liked it, and others who won't.
Daniel and I went Swiss - neutral - as middle ground as we could. Yes many people spent time and effort here and they deserve a big hand but as we have experienced, it never came to an end. Maybe Admin will hold a real sticker design contest, with rules, deadlines, and prizes!

Without Admin, things would be very unorganized. And we all appreciate his time and work in the site. But he needed to do something after we all were waiting for a decision. I talked with him and we decided this route was the quickest way for now. Not the fairest, not what the thread intended, just the quickest way.
Let's just be glad that there is something available.

I do have the first stickers!!!! Every thing is OK, just that the printer couldn't have them all ready today because he had a family emergency that put him behind. They will all be finished Monday. They look fine.
