Following the thread from the General category here is my 2 cents. Although I dont have my car yet I love this forum. Here is my take on the window sticker. Something simple and classy, yet easy to read at a high speed. The colors are an approximation and the logo is a digital trace of a picture I scanned but hopefully you will get the idea.

Sorry put in the wrong picture

| Nice work! I'll take one in black, with "member since 2000" :) |
| What is the relative size of these? |
| The size right now is pretty much what you see. About 1.5 by 5 inches. I envision the actual sticker being slightly bigger. Lets say 2.5 inches tall and 7 inches wide. Does that seem too big? |
| I would prefer the size of those static-stickers usually associated with alarm systems and such...maybe closer to 1x5 or 1.5x5 as you mention. |
Great work MDXJewel!
I like the size as you have them posted. They would look great on my baby. |
Looks great...I'll take one that says "member since 2000" !@#$% IN WAITING! :)
Or maybe you can make one of those... "I'd rather be driving my MDX" for the back bumper.
I can't seem to save a good copy of our work below 8K! I'll keep working on it. Any thought on where else to post it?
| Way Cool! I'll take one in Mesa Beige as a static sticker (but if its a static sticker, I'd prefer black characters on a clear sticker). |
| I would prefer to keep it small, no bigger than the 1.5 x 5 you posted. |

MDXJewel:
Can we get them with a clear background, no background color? And I'm with DMor on the above for our other car or how about :
"Acura MDX - Precision Made".

I have a parking sticker on my rear window - and it's barely visible even when you're looking right at the vehicle... so you'll probably need to make this a sticker which is put on the outside of the truck.

Those stickers look great. I'd love the one in b&w against my GG. The size as posted in the images, looks great.
So, what' the next step. Should we start a counter as to how many to make, which color, size and what it will cost?
-S |
| Just a thought...but MOST of us will recognize it by color only or shape, since you'll never be able to read it at high speed or even stopped (probably), so, I'd like to see ONE color instead of multi colors and maybe you can make it circular since so many other stickers are already square. If you placed it in the upper right corner of the drivers window...then it would easily be recognized by it's shape behind the drivers head and be able to be seen through either side. Just a thought. ;) |
Tell me what you think of this layout as well. The first is the actual image, the second is a mock-up of what it might look like on the tinted window.
the demo...
| If you'll notice, the actual graphic, the first one, has teh logo centered properly. I mised that in the demo view. |

I hate to keep quoting DMor:
I have worked with and have some friends who are printers and by staying with one design with the same shape, size, and color it will be less work as well as cost less. If anyone is interested (or someone hasn't done so already) I can check into the cost. We need to decide on the design, shape and color.

| The Acura symbol needs to be in black also not white..it would be hard to see it. Just my 2 cents. I would defiantely want one! But I wouldn't want it to be anything that would go on the outside where it would be like a sticker...more like a static cling. Thanks...also how do we get the ball rolling on finding someone to make these and how much they'll cost and how we order such and such. |
| BTW, if we use the Acura symbol do we need to get the "OK" from Honda/Acura to use their logo? |
| I have a call in to a printer that I use to get a price quote for something like this. (They are generally expensive since they deal with Fortune 500 clients, but they would give me a number to work down from) I dont know how we could go about making this happen -- I dont really have the time. Maybe Acura4Life could step in here and lead this if we got enough interest. As far as the colors being clear or not that would probably be determined in the printing process. Im sure a colored background would cost more. I could certainly forward the design to anyone who wanted to make them. A4L what do you think? |

Great work!
I'll take in MesaBeige black or static clear with white lettering for the window.
Size seems good to me 2.5 x 7. |
| is great! I believe since this forum already has the "ok" from acura to use it's name "acuramdx.org" that it shouldn't matter if we use it on a sticker since we'd be advertising for the forum. |
You guys all rock! I love the designs. I didn't think you guys would move so fast but .. THANKS!
Ok, the next step should be that we leave this forum open for a few days and then place the designs on a single website and take a vote. How does that sound? Get your designs in! |
I agree with the comment made earlier, we need to keep it to a single decal. That's why I went with the gold look. Not sure I am 100% pleased with the way the gold turned out, so I'll work on it tonight to get it to look more like real raised gold metal.
:>That's if I don't spend all night in the garage staring at my MDX tonight after I pick it up! |

But of course! The Acura logo is a registered trademark and any unofficial reproduction of it is copyright infringement!
Better obtain authorization/permission from Acura/Honda. We would not want the designer and the printer face those corporate lawyers now, do we?

| All MDXs have a lot of silver trim, wheels, badges, door handles, etc. I think Silver on clear would show up real well on the rear tinted glass. |
Here is how we should proceed. We should get N number of designs together, I will setup a web page where you will be able to vote on each one. After we vote, we can submit the designs for a quote. We should also work with a fixed size, or at least no more than 2 sizes.
Are there restrictions on number of colors?
Thoughts?
-Admin. |

I'll take a B/W one with "member since 2000". Let me know when they are ready!
Let's get it on! |
Now what if Tim (or admin for that matter) would set up a contest for the design...and let the winner have some accessories for free...that would stimulate creativity and competition...
And what if we would be able to add our usernames on the stickers? I'd love to see Ken's...:)
Just a thought... |

I don't want to spill the Bordeaux all over the burlwood while groping for my theater specs to read the durn thing!! (Mahogany color, remember? :) ). So...a clean and well defined shape is better, IMO.

I really like this one -- great job, sidewinder! |

| Crap! Now I can't decide between Sidewinders and MDXTRA's. Somehow we need to get this thing to a vote and get moving forward. Any idears? |
| All of these entries have been just great. The creativity and enthusiasm you folks are sharing with the rest of us is terrific. After going back and forth between messages a number of times to compare them all, I'll cast my vote for Sidewinder's graphic. Nice work!! |
All of you are doing a great job!!!!!! Sidewinders in neat because he used the dot as a flash. I also like the ones with the Acura logo, but I'm sure we could get in trouble with that too. Better find out about that one. It's hard to decide. Whatever you decide I'm in. All I know is with the tinted windows it needs to show up. I'll be looking for them as soon as they get in circulation (although I still haven't seen a MDX around here yet, except at Christmas time).

The one issue I have to bring up again is that as far as white print goes on a clear decal film, we would have to have them professionally printer for us. If we go with a design without white we can probally find a way to do these ourselves. I'll work on printing a few of the ones without the logo this weekend put them on the car and shoot them to post in the gallery.
Any thoughts on a brakelight mask template? ;) I was actually even thinking of black Acura logos on the brakelights. It's static film, so why not play? |
I bought a set of decal transparencies and tried several things out. Well, the tint in back of the MDX is very strong, so no matter what color you use, it won't be visible from far. I am not even sure if the white will be visible, although it might.
What about transparent stickers that go on the outside of the car? I think those would look the best. Anyone know what I'm talking about, or what they are called? Are they available in office supplies kinda stores? |
FWIW, one thing you have to worry about on any item that has the Acura compass emblem on it is that the word "Acura" must appear below in the corporate script, the compass emblem cannot ever appear by itself for printed materials (taken right from the advertising guide). Furthermore, you have to get license to distribute them from Acura corporate due to the emblem, unless, of course, you are a dealer. Anyone know any of those jerks who work at a dealership? (a little self-bashing humor :D )
I like Sidewinder's the best myself. But if I can help, lemme know.
Been trying to think of a contest idea for a while, but what? The sticker is too subjective. Thoughts? |
| maybe we could use them as bumper stickers...? just an idea |
Say... I just got my MDX last friday and I am really interested in getting the MDX.org sticker to go with my nice shiny Nighthawk MDX.
When will the stickers be in and or ready? Is there any news on this?
Thanks.. |

A very good question. What are we going to do here guys? It seems like our well-intentioned plans have come to a halt. How about we set the criteria for a window decal submissions.
1) Must be removable (static).
2) Must be designed for use on dark tint (since they ALL have that in common).
3) No larger than 6"W x 2"H, or 4" square (any larger would be a crime).
4) May not use any Acura Trademark Logo (because we do not have permission).
5) Must use one color scheme so that one design works on all body colors (saves printing costs).
6) Must not contain any element which needs customization (such as names or "Member Since ..." (see above).
Sound good?

Admin,
Please pick the two or three that you think best represent this great website. Then have people place their order aginst the one they want. The winning design will be the one ordered and the folks who voted for the other non-winning entries will be allowed to place an order for the winning design if they so choose.
My question is, who is going to order and distribute?

How about across the top of the windshield on the outside?
Is that stupid? It would be HIGHLY visible from there.

| I'm with A4life. Now lets get this thing done. Who's gonna produce these things and mail them to us? |

Well I took the liberty to make a quick synopsis of all of the stickers that people seemed to like. Perhaps this composite will help everyone choose. I hope I didn't miss any.
And oh yeah.. this is not my MDX. I just borrowed someones SS from the gallery for the mock up. Hope I didn't offend the owner, they had a great shot of the back window which suited this purpose.
My vote to follow...
Now to the vote..
I choose #3 (white lettering with the twinkling star). I think this one really looks great on the mock up. It will look even better on the real thing.
Who's going to keep the vote tally??

#3.
If anyone would like to volunteer, and has time, contact the admin over @ clublexus.com. They just finished a sticker order (4 bucks) and could provide details.
I'd normally offer to do so without hesitation, but alas I am too busy trying to stay busy (employed) in the SF Bay Area as prospective clients continue to disappear by the day :( At least the market's been heading north since I moved into cash :)

But if I read right, ClubHexus ;) is getting stickers, the plastic stuff with GLUE on the back. Am I correct? |
| I like number three as well. I would like however to keep it as small as possible. Interestingly it has the largest overall font in the group, which means the decal can be physically smaller than the others and still be readable. |

Possibly...I'd be willing to do a (glue) sticker on the rear glass if necessary since it could be removed with glass polish. Daniel (admin) mentioned the static-cling deal wasn't visible from the inside... |
Window label #3 looks like to way to go to me !!!
It looks Great! |

What if Admin could set the voting up under the "poll of the week". I think this would be easier than wading through this thread.
My 2 cents |

#3 !!!!!!!!!!

| #3 looks good - Hey Admin! How about updating the poll of the "week" (month? :) ) This would be a good one. |
I will setup a poll for this.
Also, I want to warn everyone that the tint on the back of the MDX is very strong, so even a white decal won't be really visible. I tried printing a light grey decal, and it wasn't visible at all. I think we have to start thinking about "not-so-easy-removable" option. I will talk to the guys at the lexu$ site.
But the design would be a first step. |

I like # 3.
It really looks sharp. |
| i kinda like #4 - it looks more pro (i guess i used to often the effects in #3 that it does not wow me anymore) :) |

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Voting will do us no good until someone comes up with the kahoonas to execute this thing. We need someone willing to take orders and money and of course someone willing to get the damn thing manufactured. I'm only the idea guy,. I can admit that I don't have the faculties, abilities, or time to execute any of the above. Until someone does, we'll be stuck in this whirlwind for a while.
Sorry...just stating the obvious. So, we need:
1) Someone willing to take the orders and ship
2) Someone willing to manufacture the "stickers"?
Any ideas or takers? The designs are great and it would be a shame to seem them not being used.. |
I can definitely take orders and ship them. I was also talking to some manufacturers of non-decal bumper-like stickers, and they can take orders online and ship them too, but that may be a bit more expensive. I need to find out from you guys whether you're ok with the outside decals, then I can get a better quote.
Once I know the quality and the basic design, I will make a trip to the local printing shop and get a quote. I don't mind paying for a large quantity, and then just shipping to everyone interested (for a nominal charge).
Let's finalize on the design. I can do more designs if needed (not that I am great at it). |

Just a thought. The site is close to having it's 1,000th member join. At the current rate it should only be a week or two. How about a free acuramdx.org sticker for number 1000!
BTW, #3 is my choice.

We should mass email all the members when and if the sticker is finally available to order, so that those who don't have this website as their browser's homepage will here about it as well.

What can I say, Daniel...you ROCK! |

I'm with # 3
Looks like a trend! |
| I would suggest that Tim get Acura to permit the use of their logo in all the designs submitted thus far. Once this is approved, then the designs get modified and we would put them up for a final vote by a certain deadline. After the selection of the winner, the designer of the winner shall get a prize from TIM and Tim should reproduce the winning sticker and make them available for sale to the rest of us. It would be easier to go through Tim for most of us and Tim has been great to us. If Tim agrees to this and the designer is also in accordance then we can place our orders in! |
Nice of you to offer for someone else to give away stuff... :)
I actually mentioned to Tim already that he should come up with a Hondacuraworld decal to send with orders on request. |
| I am only suggesting. Tim was looking for some prize ideas. |

I'm flattered people.. I thought this was getting cold there for a while but I guess there's still interest. Now how about some more designs? Lets show some creativity. Here's my v2.0. Admin, you may want to check out http://www.websticker.com.

I'm really liking # 5.
Anyone thought of making front license plates for those people living in the states where only a back license plate is required??? |
Okay, I like Jorge's idea of the contest, but there are so many nice designs in already, and many people already have a head start, so I dunno if it'd be fair.....
I have done some investigation into doing the acuramdx.org sticker as well as a hondacuraworld.com sticker. The stickers I'm going to be getting are a vinyl cling-type, costs are minimal on them and they look great! I'd be glad to get them printed and distribute them if Daniel would like. |

Let me know when your stickers are in and I'll get one, you can put me on a pre-order list.

| Let us know when we can order ours from you. The clinging concept sounds very appealing. |

Put my vote for sidewinders v2.0. I like the oval shape, and I think the cling-style would be best, IMOHO.

I just put on a vinyl sticker which I got from a local radio station. It's very easy to see and read through the front side windows or windshield. However, when I tried on the tinted back window, I don't even notice it unless there is bright sunlight, and I look closely at it to be able to read it. I don't think ANY sticker on the inside of the tinted back glass will be legible when the vehicle is driving by on the road.
