SARs just hit S. Korea recently via foreign exchange students from China.
6 months is a long stay..
What month are you going? Keep in mind that it rains EVERY day (monsoon season) in August. The rain is outrageous... and you cant be walking without an umbrella either because the rain has a high ph level due to all the pollution.. also... it gets really really hot and humid during the summer.. ;]
I'm leaving on June 7th~ |

| I don't know of any places to go but we went to Seoul for a couple of days. Don't worry to much about SARS. I mean the US has as may cases as SK. And HKG is practically empty (poor Cathay Pacific:( ) if your passing by. |

-nyc,
My fellow Korean...I wish I could go there every vacation.
Well Have fun...
-DUBAYA,
To answer your questions...
Currently, Lexus is the big seller in S. Korea.
Just a cople weeks ago, Honda has lunched their automoblie
market in Korea. Honda only had a motor-cycle industry but finally,
they are getting started. I heard Accord and CRV will be the only
car that Honda has presented so far and also I heard that
they aren't going to lunching Acura at least a year.
to add some comment about shopping...itaewon has interesting
stuff and also many retailer speaks English well. I also suggest
you to try 'Dong dae moon si jang(si jang means market)' or
'Nam dae moon si jang'. Those tow places are almost 24 hours
day and has many goodies.
If you are staying in Seoul....Try to use subway as possible as you
can (they are connected to everywhere!!!)
Hope this helped you a little...if you have more question just ask... |

DUBYA123, hope you have a good time when go over there. And also wish you a safe trip. I think the days of getting cheap stuff in Korea is over. At least, not as relatively as cheap as things were back in the late 80's or early 90's.
If you're looking for electronics, I doubt you can find things for cheap for quality stuff. However, you'll find many gadgets not available in North America. There's like an electronic merchant's district somewhere in Seoul, the name of which escapes me at the moment. Perhaps you can ask someone there. I hear you find alot of funky stuff there. You'll find many Japanese brands there too.
For clothing, you might find some bargains at the Dong Dae Moon market, but for true savings, you gotta go after like 2 or 3 AM. That's when the stores sell stuff at wholesale prices. During the day, since they know many consumers come, they don't offer too much significant savings.
You might wanna try some boh-shin-tung. Just kidding!!! hehehehe... However, if you're single and free, then, make sure to check out some of the room salons. Great fun, indeed... so I HEARD; definitely not speaking from personal experience. ;) |

Ahhh, joys of being single. It's been a while since I've been to Korea. Would love to go back, but gotta find an excuse to go there by myself ;) I'd hook up with my buddies who are still out there teaching English and blowing the money as they earn it. One of my trips, back in 91, was for a month and I think there were two nights that I didn't end up drinking. Korea, it's hard on the liver.
Have a safe trip, nyc. I know I don't have to wish you a good time since I know you will and then some :D |

Well, I wouldn't complain too much. You're not that far from K Town. My parents live over at Montebello and I visit them once or twice a year. Thinking about BCD soon-doo-boo jeeh geh and the jah-jang-myun place on the first level of the Koreatown Plaza makes my mouth water :29:
Of course, living here up in Canada, I don't even get Krispy Kreme or In&Out Burger. |
