A semi-interesting roundup of some of the newer technologies making their way into cars/trucks these days. Interesting to note which are already in the MDX and which might make it into the next model year (and beyond).

Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff, but I'm kind of dissapointed the MDX wasn't used as the example for Navi.
Side note: The photo of the Mercury Messenger sure looked nice. |

Great article...except, when reading about the surround sound (& all the other goodies for that matter), I couldn't help but think about that new Snickers commercial that makes fun of big SUVs with all the crazy electronic gadgets. Where the guy is riding through the neighborhood is his new HUGE "import" SUV that looks A LOT like a Hummer.....And he's bragging about all the stuff his baby has (surround sound, dvd, hdtv, 32 airbags)....right before he crashes it into his garage because it won't fit.
I can't help but laugh everytime I see it. :2:
Also, I found the night vision piece interesting, since I was at a conference last week where night vision applications were discussed. There was a lot of talk about how it has been nowhere near as popular an option as Cadillac hoped it would be. In fact, it's something GM/Cadillac is not really even pushing because of the price point and low consumer interest. It's supposedly a $2K option, but is only available as part of a $6K option package. :8: |

......that they didn't use the new 2nd generation Honda/Acura Navigation System to showcase the technology, but I guess, I know why they didn't. It's because Nissan is sponsoring these articles  (Yeah, the almighty $$$ at work). Sorry, but I'm very experienced with using a variety of Nav systems, and have played around with the Nissan/Infiniti DVD systems, and they don't hold a friggin stick to the new Honda/Acura units. They don't even hold a friggin stick to the Toyota/Lexus DVD Navi systems!!!! ........no wonder the guy said "wouldn't consider spending that much money on an option like this with limited usefulness"
There are several shortcomings the Inifiniti Nav system as compared to Acura's
First off, it is not touchscreen operated. The user interface comprising of a joystick and some buttons is very crude and extremely cumbersome to use (The one I sampled was in an FX45, which does not come with voice activation, so in this case, the only method for input would be to use the physical interface)
Secondly, the DVD system is a joke! :28: ......They supposedly upgraded to a DVD system "just as in Acura and Lexus" , but it looks like they missed the whole point!! :28: FOR EXAMPLE: If you try and program a destination more than a couple hundred miles from your location (I tried an address from Los Angeles to Denver, CO) the almightly "DVD" system responds by saying: "Cannot calculate route. Choose a destination that's closer" ........but isn't getting seamless and continous coverage across the USA, exactly the whole point of having a friggin DVD based system in the first place
There are other "minor" shortcomings as well, which I don't exactly recall since I wrote off this Navi system after these two MAJOR, UNACCEPTABLE ones!! |

| I have a question about the 03 nav on the mdx.....does it repeat what you say like the one in the video?? Also did you see how friggen small that screen looked and how the heck can someone toggle in destinations while driving. I love my touch screen. |
