As my state of Florida today considers implementing the ban on smoking approved by constitutional referendum by 70% of the voters, I wonder how many MDX owners smoke?

You need to include another option: "occassional smoker." I enjoy a fine cigar every now and then, although it is usually outdoors while walking the dog or having a nightcap - but never while inside or driving in the 'X . . . :1: :1: :1:

... nor do I allow smoking in the MDX:1: That was not a choice.

Pardon the smilie pun:cool:

I do not smoke nor allow it in any of my vehicles or house. If people want to smoke they should do so in their own confines (house & car), they have no right to infringe on my right to breath smoke free air. Sorry for the rant.:3:

I don't smoke, smoking is bad. Didn't you learn that when you were a kid? I don't allow people to smoke in my X, the smoke will make the cabin smells like sh**.

uh uh........Go "kill" yourself somewhere else please. Man I hate that smell. My wife and I decided to go to Outback yesterday and were seated in the non-smoking section but right next to the smoking section. We ended up packaging up our meal right after it was brought out and leaving because we couldn't stand it any longer. A 4 foot wall does not constitute a proper "barrier" in a restaurant.

Which brings up an interesting question - For all of you who are non-smokers and self proclaimed anti-smoke critics: would you divest yourself of any and ALL support of 'Big Tobacco'? What if your 401k or retirement plan had holdings in Philip Morris - can you turn your back on an industry that provides trade and commerce as well as employee welfare and benefits for millions of people across several states ? An interesting moral dilemma . . .

Interesting indeed. I would not be surprised if some of my mutual fund holdings did own Philip Morris. I think they've diversified their business (food, beverages, ect) due to the fact that they probably forecast their tobacco revenue declining... a 'slow death' so to speak (pun intended)...:o ;)

Hockeyplayer I truly empathise with your situation. One of the good things about CA is the "no smoking in the workplace" laws we have. Yes, eating and drinking establishments are working places too. We don't have the smoking/no smoking section dilemma, you just can't smoke, period. On out of state business trips I always have to adjust my thought process because we get so used to the no smoking regs here.

Smoking is so damn bad, you should be quarantined if you smoke and be ostracized and like sent to France. YES! SEND THEM ALL THE FRANCE! WORLD PROBLEMS SOLVED!!! WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!! :p

I do not smoke or I let anybody else smoke in any of my cars. Sometime I let somker light up in my house. It all depends how close of a friend they are to me.
MrPrescott
As a reformed smoker, I have something to say to those that still do. If you have any family or friends that love you, you've got to quit for their sake.

Get a life. Give it up!

(You can guess where I stand on smoking in my X!)
Wazowski
No smoking allowed. Period.

So anyone who wanna smoke.. stay away from my X!

If it's about freedom, yes anyone can smoke if they want, but just not in my X .

And believe me it is not that pleasant walking into out-of-state restaurants and hotels. Las Vegas is a perfect example, but the best Casinos seem to control it amazingly well with what must be extremely good air conditioning, maybe utilizing deionizers. But there are others where I get a tickle in the back of my throat and I just want out of there.
I think around food is the worst. It's all what you are used to. Amazing how much things have changed and how much we have adapted to the changes. Glad to see countries like Norway are making inroads. Europe is long overdue, not to mention greater Asia.

OK - thanks for all the replies so far!!!!!!! To answer my own question: I do not and have never smoked, and would NEVER allow any smoking in my X.

Just tonight, I and 2 very good friends went to a new restaurant in town that was completely smoke free. We even sat right next to the bar. What a complete delight not to have to worry about getting an eye and lung-full of 2d hand smoke.

With this being my first posted poll, I guess I've learned that the categories matter: to wit: there are responses to only the first 2 questions, since the questions posed overlap. Either you smoke or don't, and the rest is just extra stuff.

I'm still hoping Florida will follow the lead of California and NY. I think that 70% is a pretty strong voice on the matter. Not sure what knucklehead at what demonstrated average and dumb law firm drafted the Florida constitutional amendment that required the Florida Legislature to implement it, but my hope is that a ban will eventually be done. Hope springs eternal.......

I also travel a lot on business and being from California, I forget just how nice it is here. I attend a lot of conferences and frequently step outside the exhibit area to talk with people where it's quiet. I hate it when you step out the door and there are fifty people standing there smoking. Gasp!!!

The results of the poll skew heavily to non-smoking. I suspect this is because of the socio-economics of the survey base. Take a look a the interesting numbers from the US Census Dept. Note the decline in smoking with a blip upwards for the 18-24 age group in 1992. These numbers art 11 years old however will be interesting to see the most current census.

are you kidding????? :2:

there is NO WAY I will allow anyone to smoke in any of my cars or inside my house. :D :p
Jupiter
:D I smoke sometimes when I have to think too much or hard. I fume when someone pisses me off. :21:

ok ok that's not what you meant. :2:

I don't consider myself a smoker, however, I do enjoy the occassional fine cuban cigar socially. :1: Occassional is defined as 1-2 per year.

No one is permitted to smoke in any vehicle nor domicile I own. Not even if they are family members. They must step outside of the property before being permitted to light up.

On a side note when traveling ... NEVER believe anyone that tells you that it is okay being in a room when an ozone machine is running. An ozone machine is typically used to remove smoke odors when you walk into a non-smoking hotel room that reeks of smoke. It is okay on short time periods like turning it on or off then leaving immediately.
