Long time lurker, first time poster. Just got our MDX a couple of weeks ago (wife's car). Starlight silver w/quartz, NAV, RES.
First off, thanks to all who participate on this board; it was an invaluable resource as my wife and I (mostly me) agonized these last few months between the MDX and the XC90.
My initial impressions so far: Love the vehicle. No regrets about not waiting for the Volvo. Still pore over the owner's manuals every night and go look at in the garage before going to sleep (wife thinks I'm nuts).
Dealer Experience: Paid MSRP but got the running boards, BSMs, cargo tray, all weather mats, and wheel locks thrown in (forgot about the separation net for the pooches during the deal and got it from Tim afterward). Dealer was low in the sleaze factor in the sense that I didn't feel like I needed a shower afterward. Perfectly pleasant (should be, given the money they were making off us), but still a shoddy experience. They did a trade with another dealer about 20 miles away to get the vehicle I wanted. Said it would take an hour to get there but did not want me to leave in between (afraid I wouldn't come back). Did leave and came back an hour later. Car wasn't there and wouldn't be there for another hour and a half. Then tried to get us to take delivery with missing cargo tray and missing remote for the RES and what appeared to be obvious scratches or some type of marks on the bumper. They MUST have seen them prepping the car but were apparently just hoping we wouldn't notice. Said no way, will be back Monday, you can install the Running Boards etc. and take care of this. Come back Monday, everything looks good. But the wheel locks aren't installed and the gas tank isn't full. Guy rushes me through the intro because he's got another customer waiting to take delivery, hands me a coupon to go fill the tank myself, and promises to mail me a free oil change (which of course he didn't). So much for that.
The car itself is great. No surprises given all the info I got from this board. You know going in it's not Lexus luxury inside but overall, depending on what your needs are, you really can't beat it for value, functionality, and style in this price range.
I DO notice a slight distortion in the front windshield, which has been discussed at length. Have not mentioned it to the wife; waiting to see if she notices on her own.
Driver's seat looking a little wrinkled already but that doesn't bother me too much (yet).
Do not have the slow starting problem also discussed at length elsewhere but will say this: IMO this is an ACURA problem generally, not specific to the MDX and has nothing to do with the immobilizer. Used to have a '98 Integra which as far as I know did not have the immobilizer system but it did have the exact same slow starting problem. Engine never failed to turnover completely but sometimes it would take a while.
Anyway, here's my question for those with the RES. Our son is too young for the headphones so we just play the sound through the speakers. The thing is, even when the volume level is okay for normal CD/radio play, we have to turn it way up to get appropriate sound for the RES. If we forget to turn it down before switching back to radio/CD, we get blasted. Anyone else have this problem? Is there some obvious solution I'm missing?
Thanks and sorry for the long post. |

Congrats and welcome wolverbruin! Thanks for the detailed post.
I have the RES but, my 5-year-old always uses the headphones (he thinks it's cool). When we let him watch the RES (gotta set some limits or we'd never speak to him again!) there is never a peep from the back seat... except for the occasional giggle!
When I get a chance, I'll try the RES without the headphones and and see if I have the same experience you describe in your post. |

Congrats wolverbruin and thanks for sharing your experience. You did well to get all those accessories thrown in.
What do you mean by the "windshield distortion"? Please explain.
Also, any insight as to your screen name? Check my avitar for the reason behind my interest...:D |

Damn...after reading that thread I went down to my garage to check it out and sure enough, my X has a slight distortion a few inches up from the bottom about even with the right side of the instrument panel. :3:
But...my eyes have to be level with it to see it, and sitting normally it doesn't really seem to present itself. Still...it's annoying that for this much cash that strange defects like that show up. I don't know...I'll have to drive it some more and see if it really bothers me. |

wolverbruin,
We have the same issue with the RES when we switch back to normal audio. Kind of a pain so I try to encourage the headphones when I can. I know I have woken the kids up more than once when I've gone from DVD back to normal audio.:3: |

Thanks for the responses.
Unless phins2rt and I are both missing something, it seems that the volume issue with the RES is "normal."
diceboy, it looks like we have more in common than the MDX. I went to UCLA undergrad and Michigan for grad school. |

Unbelievable...so did I! Graduated UCLA in 1992 (bachelor's) and Michigan in 1994 (master's). |
