Hi All-
Just found your Board yesterday (wish I had found it a couple of weeks ago!)...we bought our MDX a week ago and have been very happy with it so far. Nice balance of features, quality that you expect from Acura and a pleasurable buying experience!
If my wife would have taken my advice, we would already have owned the MDX 2 1/2 years ago instead of the '00 Dodge Durango R/T (Bright Red, Running Boards, etc.) that she chose instead. It would have been three years old this Labor Day, and is the soonest that we have ever gotten rid of a new car! The MDX was not out yet back then, but I had read a ton about it in my car magazines...she, like most people, needs to see something in person to be impressed and did not want to wait. We were in need of a car with a third row seat (after the unexpected birth of our 3rd child!) and did not want something as big as an Expedition. The Durango fit the bill at the time, but swallowed gas and drove like a truck...
After we had test driven one, I checked around on line and by phone with five dealers in the area to gauge pricing and availability. Having waited on a list for months and then three months for a custom order on my own car ('02 BMW M3), I don't mind the wait if necessary...! The only obstacle that we had to overcome was the value of the trade-in...we walked out of the dealership the night we saw the car (it was not in yet when we test drove two weeks before), not because of MDX price but of trade-in price...The Manager called a couple of days later and upped the offer by $1500, which, along with my distain for selling a car, clinched the deal. My wife and I met at the dealership that night (w/ no kids!) and wrapped it up.
It is nice to have a resource like this, with friendly people (you all SEEM to be friendly after reading your posts!) and a wealth of info on the MDX, accessories, etc. I am no stranger to Message Boards, as I have been a regular on the Roadfly BMW one for years.
The first additional upgrade that we want to do to the MDX is new Tires & Wheels...
Hello to all of you out there!! |

I was also considering a Durango until I rode in one. Doesn't even come close to an Acura.
Welcome!! |

Thanks to all for the warm welcome!
It looks like a lot of MDX owners are ex-Durango owners with similar Durango gripes and reasons for making the switch.
We also checked out a lot of the same SUVs when buying the MDX, such as the Volvo XC90 and the Toyota Sequoia. We hated the Volvo, especially the "theatre" seats, view out the back, non-adjustable rear headrests and kind of cheap interior.
The Sequoia was just too big and not quite "luxury-enough"...
My wife really liked the Porsche Cayenne (in the magazines...we didn't even bother trying to see one at the dealership), but besides the fact that it did not have the 3rd row seat, it would have been more $$ and FAR less reliable than an Acura. Having saw one in person for the first time last week, I don't even think it is that great looking either!
Now I have to help the wife find some nice looking tires and wheels...am considering 19 or 20" and possibly chrome, which I think would look good w/ the Black exterior. I am a little worried how good of a job that my wife will do with taking care of fancy wheels...I have expensive ones on my M3 but she RARELY drives it (so they have held up nicely for 10 months/12K miles!).
Regards, |
