While driving home from the mall with my wife and son tonight my Malfunction Indicator Lamp and the VTM-A light came on simultaneously.....I notice that the gas tank is full so I asked if my wife tighten the gas cap and make sure that it clicks at least three times. She said she doesnt know...
I drove moderately home and when I park the vehicle and check the gas cap it was not shut all the way...On page 236 User's manual MDX book it says that the engine light will come on if the gas cap is not tightly closed...
What about the VTM-4 light though??? I turned off the engine and start te engine again the the Malfunction Indicator Lamp is still on but the VTM-4 light is off...the book said that it takes three trips for the light to go off...
Should I take my MDX to the dealer and have it checked out?? |

| Yea, just swing by the dealer...they can easily pull the code from the computer to see why it's lit up. Hope it's just the loose cap. |

Okay...So I took it to the nearest Acura dealer for the checkup and it turns out that when they ran a computer diagnostic test on my MDX they discovered that I have a BAD E.G.R. That is why my Malfunction Indicator Light and the VTM-4 Lights were on... So they have the E.G.R. in stock and my MDX will be ready by 4PM PST today.
My vehicle is still in warranty so its a NO COST repair...DAMN! Better sooner than later cause if it was an out of warranty repair that would of been a $432.00 repair job. |

That's good news! However it is disappointing that Acura is still having problems with their EGR valves. I had to bring my wifes 99 TL in a few months ago with the same symptoms as your X and the service rep told me Acura extended the warranty on the 99 TL's because of a problem with the valves.
I would have expected them to have the valve fixed by now.:4: |

Is it just me or does that sound very high for an E.G.R. valve? |

| I haven't looked for the EGR on the X, but I have replaced them myself on two previous vehicles -- and they were AWFUL to get to. Probably most of the cost is labor. |

| Our MDX had the check engine light (malfunction indicator) come on Friday morning. I checked the gas cap and it was not loose, so I took it to the dealer. They diagnosed the problem as P0456 (Evap System small leak). They tested the system and found no leaks. Adviser said tighten the gas cap real well (at least 3-4 clicks) and if the light comes on again, take it back. |

I had the same problem and the same fix, replaced the EGR Valve at 30,000 miles. However it took my dealer 2 tries to get it repaired.
