An X, or Granny's Rocker? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I love my MDX. With the exception of having to replace the bumper cover due to a minor driveway accident (not the X's fault!) everything has been perfect. As it has been with the 3 previous Acura's I've owned.

In the past few weeks, the driver's seat has become as squeaky and creaky as granny's rocker. Every movement, in every direction is answered by a "rrrrttttt" or "eeeekkkkk". Sounds like a gag seat!

I've read the previous posts on this subject, but I was wondering if many other '03 owners have this specific problem occuring as the weather gets warmer. Maybe it's due to lunar alignment. I dunno...

Guess I'll wait until my 7500 mile visit to the dealer and just crank up the music to drown-out the noise in the mean time.

About the only time I get strange sounds coming from the seat is after I have eaten Mexican!! And for some strange reason I need to open the moonroof and windows, too!!:2::1:

Can ya tell it's Friday!?!?!?

Saw a bumper sticker the other day that read:
"What If Everyone Farted At The Same Time?"

We've had the noisy, and shifting, driver's seat since < 100 miles. Very annoying! At the 7500, the dealership tightened the bolts, but the shifting and creaking were apparent by the next morning. I don't see the temperature making a difference, but then we didn't have a frigid winter here in the South, either. If it gets worse with the warmer weather, we'll go nuts until we can get back to the service dept.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just might bring my X in to the dealer in the next week or so just so that I don't need to live with the constant creaking until 7500 mile service.

This will sound silly but it worked.

My driver seat was squeaking every time my weight shifted as the car accelerated, turned or braked. The dealer tried to lubricate and tighten it, but nothing worked.

Finally one day I was so tired of the noise and I was complaining to a passenger about it that I started rocking forward and backward in the seat quite violently to demonstrate the squeak. It squeaked a couple of times, then something kind of popped. The seat has been blessedly silent ever since. The seat isn't loose, the power bits all work properly and I am now very happy with it.

Actually, the dealer did say that the squeak would work it's way out. I just helped it work out quicker.

So, get in your car and have a temper tantrum...you will feel better and your seat will likely work out its squeak problem.

I'll be out there today to see if your idea works.
Thanks!

To me, the squeak sounded like it was coming from the steering wheel, I mentioned this before on another thread.

I'll try the seat too.

Okay guys heres one thing that just popped into my head after merrillcrosbie said something pop, much like my back once, but thats another story. COULD IT BE? That the zip tie holding all the wires and looms under the seat could be loose and when upon sitting they rub or "squeak" Maybe thats makes me to belive that when merrillcrosbie said something popped perhaps one of the zip ties broke off? who knows......
merrillcrosbie
When I said it kinda popped, it felt like the seat sort of, well, seated. Like it wasn't properly or completely in place, and my wild pounding on it kind of put it in place. Call it a chiropractic adjustment of sorts.

I tried and tried and tried. No amount of jumping around in my driver's seat fixed the problem.

Guess the dealer will have to fix it at my 7500 mile maintenance.

:19: I can only imagine what my wife would have wondered if she saw me trying to do the same!

Maybe you need a bigger bucket in your bucket seat. I am 6'3", 250. When I bounce on something, it suffers and never makes another noise.

Here's an old post of mine. Wanted to report back on the creaking seat fix.

Finally got my 7500 mile maintenance, and the entire service with the seat fix took an hour! The seat fix was to realign the seat rails - plain/simple. No need for greasing the seat coils, bouncing around in the seat until it "Pops" or farting on the seat - all great suggestions, but none of 'em worked. The dealer fix was far less work - although I did enjoy trying out the farting fix.

Also, Frankel Acura in Northern MD KNEW not to do the VTM fluid change for my '03. I was looking out for that one.

So, if you seat creaks like mine did, just have the dealer realign the rails!

I'm going to do the temper tantrum thing, just for my sanity and hopefully it'll also fix the seat!

mdxer46: good to hear your dealer actually FIXED your seat, and even knew not to change your VTM - I had to go rounds with our Service Manager about NOT changing our VTM @ 7500. Sounds like you're dealing with a great service dept.
mdxer46
Spoke too soon! My driver's seat is squeaking with every movement of my butt! It was "fixed" for just a few days and it began to come back. I am not is full-squeak mode.

I know that my dealer will enthusiastically work it again. Just have to find the time to sit in the dealership.

I'll report back on the next "fix".
