Shortly after purchasing my 2003 MDX a vibration developed just in front of rearview mirror next to windshield. After taking back to dealer several clips were adjusted and vibration ceased. Within two days vibration reappeared only louder. On second visit to dealership the complete headliner was replaced. Vibration disappeared. Within a week vibration has reappeared. Waiting to take back to dealer. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Wondering what my alternatives are. Thanks!

In a separate thread I have commented on an engine/ac vibration very noticeable at idle. Note that this is on an 03, which may present this symptom because of the higher engine output.
You can feel the engine vibration in the steering wheel, seat, your arm resting on the console, etc It get much stronger if you click the a/c on. If you cycle the a/c compressor on and off with the dash switch, you can feel the vibration come and go stronger. If you open the hood and put your hand on the engine cowl, with the a/c on you can feel a noticeable vibration. The new vehicle did the same. I presume it is an inherent design issue in the engine and a/c.
The service department took a look at it and said it's normal. we went to a new MDX and it did the same thing. I find it annoying. |

I just bought my MDX three weeks ago and have the same problem. For some reason, the headliner behind the rearview mirror is touching the front glass. I plan to bring it in to the dealer when my first oil change is due, but in the meantime, I put a small piece of foam in between the glass and the headliner and stuck tissue paper to push the headliner back from the rear view mirror. I am going to recommend that the dealer shave the headliner off a bit at that location so it doesn't touch the glass. That should solve the problem.

The dealer replaced the headliner and the noise has stopped.

I noticed the engine rumbling thing too at idle...when I am stepping on the brake at a stoplight, I can feel it shaking (vibrating). I thought that something is wrong with my MDX, but from what I hear, it seems normal.

I just bought my 03 month ago and experienced the same vibrating problem. I brought it to one dealer, they did some tests and told me all parameters fall into spec and this is not an issue as it's going thru brake-in stage (1100 miles on my mdx). I called Acura, the client representative told me Acura relys on delearship and nobody raised the issue before. The Rep. simply documented it and want to see what's going on in the near future. I still feel sth going wrong because the idle running speed is not very stable, this should not happen to a brand new car. I am not sure if you guys has ever brought up this problem to Acura service department instead of delearship. The more complaints we send, the more attention acura pays. I am still doubting if acura spec is bug free.
