I am very new to detailing and just waxed my black X with Meguiars Gold Class for the first time.
Actually, it was the first time I ever waxed a car before.
My question is, given all the swirl marks you can see on a black surface, is it safe to use an orbital buffer or should I stick with linear motions with a cotton towel?
If the orbital is safe, any tips or gotchas I should know about? |

| I use the Meguire's Orbital buffer, which I find pretty easy to use, and not harmfull to the paint. Generally when I had swirls I used Meguire's #9 (Swirl remover) to get rid fo the swirls, then wax the car. The results are pretty amazing. |

1 ) I apply all waxes by hand
2) then I use a 10" orbital polisher (low rpm) with terry cloth bonnet to remove dried wax
3) for final shine I use Porter Cable 6" Orbital Polisher with thick wool bonnet

| Why the two different orbital polishers for step 2 and 3? |

| I use a 10" Sears orbital buffer to apply Meguiars, then after the wax has dried, I use the same buffer (with a new cloth on it) to polish it. Works wonderfully easily, and there has never been a visible swirl on my Mahogany X. SO-O-O-O easy to use!:4: |

I've always wondered what is the difference b/w $20 and $40+ buffers. What should I be looking for in terms of features, not just the brand?
thanks

Because I'm not as bright as I am Happy.....lol, :banghead: , no just kidding, I don't like swapping bonnets, they constantly rip, and at $5-$10 a bonnet that cutting into my beer money :7:
I just prefer wax removal with an old 10" orbital polisher I have, it does not polish as well as it removes wax....on the other hand the 6" Porter Cable polisher really brings out the mirror finish :29: |
