| My 2003 MDX (less than 4k miles) is beginning it's third week in the shop for a very slow oil leak in the right front of the truck. So far the dealer has replaced some of the gaskets in the oil pump, but the leak continues. At this point they've mentioned possibly replacing the engine since they can't find where the leak is at. Anyone else have this problem or similar and find a dealer who could fix it? I don't like the thought of where an engine replacement is going to end up (lemon law). |

The dipstick is in the right front, as is the timing belt, and associated assemblies. I find if hard to believe they can not trace the leak with a dye added to the oil.
I assume they went to the 'effort' to be sure it is engine oil that is leaking. |

| I should clarify, it is on the front "passenger" side of the car. They've put dye into the oil and powder on the outside of the engine to find where the leak is coming from, but no dice. |

I don't want to raise an alarm but when I bought my MDX in late March there was a "used" 2003 on the lot with 6K on it. The dealer had installed a new engine in it and given the original customer a replacement X.
The new engine was installed due to a problem with the block casting. I honestly don't know if it was an oil leak or something else. They just called it a "bad" casting. The X was sold pretty quickly as a certified vehicle with standard 100k driveline warranty. Not a bad deal if you don't mind having a replacement engine included. |

Today Acura has decided that they will replace the "short block" (my dealer's description) to solve the problem. Acura won't consider replacing the whole engine (my naive thinking is that a new unit would be less trouble for me than cobbling together an engine from a new part and what I've got). Acura will not discuss any compensation for the loss of value to the car until the repair is complete. The car will have been in my dealer's garage for 18 days this Friday.
So I've got a car with less than 4k miles that's getting a rebuilt engine...this is turning out to be quite an expensive POS. |

Gmonigold,
Geez its like a bad dream all over again. This is exactly when my whole ordeal really went south. They will replace the lower portion of your engine and use the remaining upper. Here's the trick. Have a dealer replace a motor in a BRAND NEW SUV without destroying it. I would take digital pictures of Before and After and make sure that they do not destroy your truck as they did mine. They not only tore my truck up, they rammed the engine in and knocked the driveshaft out of balance and screwed up the trannie.
Hope your dealer has good mechanics. Dont take anything less than a brand new truck back !!!
TECK! :3:
P.S. Start the lemon law early and dont let up on Acura !!! |

So sorry to hear this, I would demand a new X, yours is brand new and this is ridiculous! Make sure you have Acura Customer Service and the Regional Manager involved. Good luck! |

| Demanded and denied. I was told all of this by Acura. Truth be told, I think my dealer (Libertyville Acura, which I can highly recommend despite this) would prefer I got a new car. |

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, and try again. I know it must be incredibly frustrating, but keep at it. Make sure you have every request and response documented. |
