Darkhelmet,

One more thing in common - were thinking of redoing our kitchen next summer - new stove and cooktop (i'm going to shoot for a viking), new cabinets and maybe some granite countertops. I'll do the tiling myself.

LOL, I know what you mean. I've advised many to keep the wives/girlfriends, ect away from her. She'll not only make the decorating bug contagious, but she's pretty contagious when it comes to fashion as well... I can't quarantine her indefinitely... You've been warned! :D :D

What a coincidence... the Kitchen is next on our 'renovation hitlist'. And yes, Viking appliances are waiting. (6 burner stove/ oven, separate built in warmer, ect, ect). Granite counter tops...
darkhelmet
MDXXXX and JSwift,

Won't be installing anything like your Viking products. I love cooking but with our commutes (65 miles one way) and long hours we don't usally cook much so I'll just be stick with the same setup I have now (downdraft cooktop in the island) but upgrading from the "builders" quailty to something more functional and replacing the cabinets and counter.

I am trying to talk the misses into using concrete. Saw it at a home show and it was great. We will proablly just go with marble or granite.
jswift2000
mdxxx,

Viking rules!!! I used to cook all the time and whenever I have the chance, I'm doing my magic. Its so funny how so many people on this forum have so much in common.

The MINI drive is awesome, this car is meant to be driven especially on twisty roads. Handling is super and mpg is very good. I got my this Friday and I already accumulated 230 miles and my fuel gauge say it's half. I'm going to use this car mostly for city/suburb driving.

Wow, now I know where to retire to. . . the house next door to mine, which is the same model with less features just sold for $600K. Nytflyt's home in this area would be close to 1.0 to 1.2.

BTW, what's the your property taxes run annually there?
2002 Acura MDX!
All of the houses you guys have are big, expensive and beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . My house is very small compare to those.
nytflyt
Laborlitigator,
I did some of the interior work myself to keep the cost down; my taxes are about $4000 a year. Come on down, I live in a new Golf community with a Curtis Strange signature course, there are plenty of lots left.

Mine is certainly small compared to most shown. But I do not need to invest in a lawn tractor and/or gardener. It costs less to heat and cool, and to clean. Overall maintenance is less and cheaper.
Seems like a fair trade-off to me unless you really need the extra room.

DaleB,
There isn’t any reason whatsoever to put down anyone’s home because of size or any other factor, my previous house was 2600 sqft. I built this house as my retirement home, I have 4 grown children and several grand children, and I wanted a home big enough to have them over whenever possible.

nytflyt,

That house is unreal!!! Love the shot. I cant believe that only cost about $500,000!!! We looked in Virginia a few years ago and the housing is cheaper and temping but... friends, family, over priced real estate in the north east, etc.

Love the houses... everyone. This is a great thread and kudos so the starter. Keep 'em coming.

I did not think I was putting anyone's home down. I was just reacting to MDX 2002s comment. Everything is a trade-off. I have had big and small homes, as you suggest to fit the lifestyle.

Home prices in this area are among the best you'll find......a 2000 square ft in the suburbs on a nice lot on a cul-de-sac generally runs around $125K, with nice homes in good neighborhoods running anywhere from $50K on up.

If you've got some time to spend, in the Buffalo area the largest realtor is www.huntrealestate.com

Many thanks for all your compliments. My cape was built in 1992 and disigned in Hingham, Mass. Taxes this past year were $2,900, but I'm afraid that will be changing soon. Actual square footage is 2,173. It looks much larger do to the garage and back hallway. All in all it's plenty big for one person.

evoge and laborlitigator,

I am in the Penobscot Bay area about 15 miles southwest of Rockland in a town called Cushing. Poulation about 1,300. When I came up thirteen years ago from Mass the town was lucky if it had 500 people. The area is growing rapidly thanks or maybe not, to MBNA. This year Rockland is getting a Home Depot, Staples, TJ Max, Wendy's, Appleby's and another hotel. So much for the good life and no traffic.

I'll try to post some interior photos tomorrow. Didn't have time to convert photos to 100K this AM. Been shooting everything at 14.2MB on my new toy.

Let's see more houses, whatever the size.

That's beautiful Jim! Oregon was one of our picks for retirement. You can pick up some great property. It is definitely a place to buy a home to LIVE in, resale should be a low priority.

We live in Winchester which is just North of Roseburg and we are a stone's throw away from the North Umpqua River. We like the area and climate, although rain at times in the winter months can get old at times! Oregon has a lot of reasonable property/acreage and homes for sale.

Va state taxes run around 6%, which isn’t bad, I am lucky to be able to live here. I know I couldn’t have the lifestyle available to me here if I lived in some of the other parts of the country.
