2 year old vomitted in the X the other day. I've cleaned it three times with alcohol and cleanser. The smell is still in the car. Any suggestions?

When you say 'cleaned it', what is "it" Seats, carpet, mats, dash, or all of the above?

My dealer has a deoderizer that works well. See if yours does. Good luck.

If your car is in a garage, leave the windows open to air things out. Closing up an odor doesn't help things. This may help.

Try Febreze. It's suppose to eliminate odors on all types of fabrics. Used it in the past with good success.

When my 16 month old puked in her car seat I left the shell out in the sunshine for 12 hours( after wiping the thing down with Clorox wipes, it still reeked) and THAT fixed the stink.

I think the UV must have 'cleansed' any residual stink.

It'll be harder to get full UV into the MDX, but find a nice sunny HILL, open the moonroof, roll down all the windows, open the the tailgate and let 'er sit. You might want to keep jumper cables handy if you leave the interior lights on...

Take some fresh ground coffee and leave it in a open container in the X for awhile and it will get rid of the smell. Worked on our other vehicle for the same reason. We just left it under the seat.

Our daughter has done this several times :( (but not in the X :)).

The following steps work for us:
1) Clean up ALL traces of vomit (since it goes everywhere, it is very easy to miss some; it gets into carpets, absorbs into seatbelt straps, etc).
2) Use Febreze liberally.
3) Leave outside with all windows open to air out - leave doors open if possible.

If the smell does not completely dissipate then you likely missed some in the clean up.

try the leather cleaner and conditioner of zaino that really removes audor from leather.
also try using new car spray which you can find it in any car cleaning shops.
all the best

Hey my wife (news producer) told me when she went out on a story the police used coffee grounds to cover up the reek of a dead body.

What about Arm & Hammer? That stuff absorbs odors.

You might check over at www.autopia.org for additional suggestions if none of these work.

Looking forward to hearing which one (or combination) does.

Here's an older thread with a similar problem. I'd not take Tim's advice in this case, however: Measurements: http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...&highlight=puke

I heard alcohol; it kills the odor causing bacteria! :8: Worth a shot.

Smell is still there although it is much less.

Try white vinegar. I used it once and it worked great. Downside is that the car will smell of vinegar for a while but I'd rather smell vinegar than puke.

If your'e going to use vinegar and have an "after smell," I would go with Fish and Chips, salt, and malt vinegar, and the smell would be better. Oh aye, have a McEwan's wi' yer Fish an' Chips when your'e at it :2:
Seriously though, I'm afraid passing time is going to be the best cure after all your efforts. Keep trying . . .

What about shampooing the area, if it's in the carpet? Lil Green Machine works great. I always use it on my vehicles once or twice a year--just to get rid of embedded dirt/dust deep down in the carpet and to get rid of moldy or musky smell.

Good luck...

It happen to me once with a new car that was only several weeks old. I was transporting a van full of girls back from a out of town soccer match when one them let go and created a mess all over the carpet and down in between the seat mechanism. It was a worst case scenario.

When I arrived home (after a stop at a service station to clean up as much of the solids as possible and to keep the rest of the girls from getting sick), I used white vinegar (1/2 cup to a gallon of water) and saturated all of the areas. Then used a wet/dry vacuum to remove the liquid. I then scrubbed with soap and water and vacuumed again. Finally I used just clear water to rinse and again vacuumed out as much as possible. It was around 1:30AM when I furnished the job.

After everything dried, there was not even a trace of oder. Good luck!!!!!

Hi LaborLitigator:

___I cannot help you with the removal but a similar incident happened to our X while my wife was taking my son to clinic. We removed the All-Weather passenger mats from the X in mid-April but still have the Rear Cargo Mat installed. The wife just told our little boy to heave onto the cargo tray. Within the hour, my wife stopped at a DIY Car wash, pulled the tray out and sprayed it down until it was pristine. All was well with the X afterwards … I hope this helps you as well as other X owners with children in the future as well.

___Good Luck

Very smart solution...any lingering odor can be neutralized with that spray odor absorber...Ozium....

you guys had it easy, last year when I was @ a friend's house, his adorable cat went pee-pee in my miata. Tried everything to rid off that stink, had to drive the miata w/ top down for 6 straight months...wait, that's what I do anyway...but on the plus side, my wife refused to sit in the passenger seat during those 6 months (that's where the kitty left her mark). It was just me, miata & the road...& souvenir from the kitty.
