Haven't been here for a long time, but came tonite to read about fuel tank sloshing and noticed how upset everyone seems to get when someone reports problems with their MDX. Seem you guys have a lot of names for negative posters!
Read an opinion in another post that the tank sloshing is a minor problem. I don't think it a minor issue at all. Actually it is quite maddening. Dealer tells me it's a "known" issue with the MDX! Gee, that really helps when I'm driving and it sounds like the rear end is falling off!
The response from people familiar with other Acura models is astounding after a ride in my bucket of bolts. Gas milage is worse that my 4wheel drive 6000lb Supercrew(by a lot!)
I could go on, but why bother. Simply stated, after 20,000 miles, this has proven to be the worse vehicle of the 21 vehicles I have owned. Now, flame on! |

swalll,
from what I can see there is a person who just logs in to bust balls, and from what i can see, they( moderators) have done a good job of figuring it out. Sloshing gas seems to be a fixable problem, if you like the car, keep your gas tank full. If you hate the car, get a Lexus. I have never heard my gas slosh, but I would check out the other Acura sites a well. Good luck. |

1) If you read through the Problems Forum and the Knowledge Base you will readily see that we admit and discuss MDX problems/issues in a rational logical way. When posters/trolls come attacking in an illogical/unreasonable way we either flame them or tune them out. Civil honest discussions are common and welcome.
2) I do not have the gas-tank sloshing problem. However those who do generally keep the tank full. If you say yours sounds like "the rear end is falling off!" you are either exaggerating or there are other problems beyond gas in the tank!!! When new people with very few posts come in with gross exaggerations they will have to pardon our skepticism.
3) There are plenty of threads regarding gas mileage. Use Serach for real world user experience. Again your claims sounds like gross exaggeration (I owned an Expedition prior to the MDX). Please post your Supercrews and your MDX mileages.
3) If you do mind could you list your previous 21 vehicles. We actually do that for fun in other threads.
OK I have tried to be civil, should I have even bothered?? |

1959 Nash, 1962 Mercury comet, 1963 Pontiac, 1966 Comet Cyclone GT, 1966 Comet Caliente, 1971 Pinto, 1972 Chrysler, 1973 Pinto, 1976 Mustang II, 1976 Pinto, 1979 T-bird, 1983 Cadillac, 1985 Blazer, 1988 Blazer 1989 Buick La Sabre, 1990 Dodge Caravan, 1992 Explorer, 1994 Dodge Caravan, 1995 Cadillac Eldorado, 1996 GMC 1500, 1999 GMC Suburban, 1998 Honda Accord, 2002 MDX Navi, 2002 F150 FX/4
In response to current car gas milage MDX : 12 MPG, FX/4 : 16mpg, Accord: 19 mpg
Now good news: Got the MDX back from dealer today and the gas tank was loose, shocks all leaking with one shock bracket loose or something I didn't understand, and something about the injectors!
All fixed at no cost and car washed, vacuumed and tire dressing applied. I did pay $32.00 for the oil and filter change and tire rotation!
They tell me my milage will be better now so my fingers are crossed.
Bottom line: completely different car!
(I still thing you guys are a little defensive) |

| I hope the dealer has fixed your problem. That is very low gas milage. How are your driving habits??I will admit that the more you baby it off the line the better the gas milage. Also, interstate driving helps a ton. I am currently at 21.6 mpg. Have never been below 17 mpg. Good luck. |
|

swall,
not to be to inquisitive, but, do you live in the mountains? and are you driving in 4th and not shifting into overdrive?- I hope the fix does the trick- but your gas mileage should be around 16 or 17 around town, I get 24 on the hwy. |

Can't be any worse. The only way an X would get 12mpg overall is if you only drive uphill. Hope the fix works. Was this thing built at the actual factory or was it a kit car
FWIW, I don't think the group's particularly defensive; in fact, most everyone tries to help with bonafide problems that are expressed in a rational manner. It's pretty easy to spot the trolls, but in some cases when problems are posted by relative newbies during a spate of troll posts (like Maurice's and yours) it also creates skepticism until we can figure out if a poster is legit or just a re-registered troll.
Hope all those fixes work for you. I think you might hold the record for Most Broken Parts. |

No need to feel sorry. I got new shocks after 22,000 mi at no cost!
Cars seems to be a lot better. If milage is better, I'm happy. I just thinK for this class of car, these things should not happen. Will post on milage in a week or so.
My current feeling is that the dealer treated me very well on this trip! |
|
|
| kuroyama |
FWIW, I also usually get around 12mpg. But my situation is that I live 1 mile from work, and half of that is a residential neighborhood where the speed limit is 25mph, and there are several stop signs. So, most (70%) of my driving is in 1st and 2nd gear, and the engine is just warming up when I pull into a parking space at work. If I do other city driving, the mpg will go up to about 17 (if I can average about 30-40mph). On the highway, I usually get around 22-23mpg.
This is still the best car I've ever owned. (I, also, have never had the gas sloshing problem.) |

I will restate an observation that I and others have stated before in the numerous ad nauseum mileage threads. The MDX takes a lot of energy/gas to get moving; but it is very efficient once you get it moving. Hence stop and go rush hour traffic will be poor (we average 14-15 in such situations; 12 does seem low to me). However we average 22-24 on pure highway/interstate driving.
We recently completed a trip from Katy to Lubbock and back on the same day (1020 miles - bring the college kids home). Katy is about 25' above sea level and Lubbock is about 3100' above sea level (the trip takes us through the hill country of central Texas). We averaged 21.4 mpg for the day. Only about 200 or so miles were on the Interstate.
Katy to Sealy on I-10.
Sealy to Abilene on TX-36 (many small towns to go through)
Abilene to Roscoe on I-20
Roscoe to Lubbock on US-84 (several small towns to go through)
Trip average was 21.4 mpg:1: |

I have two boys at Texas Tech in Lubbock and they have the RAV4 (see sig line). But all of their stuff will not fit into the back of it. We drove up there to use the MDX rear end as a cargo hauler. So plenty of drivers, and the two boys only made the return portion of the trip.

Lousy milage!? I got lucky if I could get 14 mpg in the pure city traffic. My average city milage is about 10-12. I won't be surprised if the trip computer shows 8 mpg. The EPA milage is definitely not suitable in New York City. Not even close!
BTW, I have no problem to get 22-23 mpg on the steady 65 mile-per-hour drives. |

What in heavens name are you doing driving your brand new X in NYC? The dent and car theft center of the UNIVERSE?
Of course you are going to get terrible mileage, even at 2am there is a traffic jam somewhere.in the city The only place I drive my X to in NYC is the parking garage, and I don't trust them not to scratch or dent it!
When I was a chhild we had a Buick "estate wagon" that my parents drove to the county on weekends, we were afraid it would run out of gas in traffic on 96thst just waiting to get on the FDR drive- and that was 25 years ago....That thing got gallons per mile instead of miles per gallon! |

"Swall, you owned THREE Pintos! Holy Cow!"
Yes I did! All three were good cars also! The 1983 Cadillac was the only car I had trouble with bside the MDX! Quality is a subjective issue I guess! I didn't expect much out of the Pinto's other than decent 2nd car gas milage so all three exceeded expectations for me:)
As a matter of interest, the MDX computer was reset and now shows 15.9 mpg combined driving since getting back from the dealer. We will see where it goes from here. It certainly drives and handles much better now and the fuel sloshing, while still there, is an minor thing compared to what it was. Much happier camper now! |

I don't speak for other members, but I have the "English as a second language" problems as you stated. English is a complex language for a foreigner who did not have Mr. Henry as the 7th grade English teacher. I graduated from Christian Brother highschool (Lasan) in Vietnam.

Caroline,
Thanks for your suggestions. I do park my X in the garage. Yeah, you can rent a nice apartment in other places with the same money. However, you still need to park on the street smetimes. That's why I got my scratches. Even you don't bump into others. BTW, I'm very good at parallel parking. Others will bump to yours.
Using chrome bumpers is a good idea. I used to don't understand why people put those ugly steel guard or fence or whatever you call it on their bumper. I think these things do help in NYC. |

Now now- there is no offense meant to people who speak more than one language. The comment is descriptive of how easy it is to spot a particular troll with a pattern of errors in his written language.
And your comment about White Supremacist MDX forums is both totally unconnected to "English as a second language", and trivializes the scourge of white supremacy and racism in general.

shoostist,
My comment on White Supermacist MDX forum based on the tone and language have been used on this forum lately. I have seen the term "ricer" on other posts ( not from you.) When I saw this ESL comment today, it was my last straw.
Why do I think you're white? If you are facing the racism and discrimination on the daily basic like I do, you would not make that comment. You made a connection between poorly written English and a foreigner.
Are you sure that all Americans, who were borns in the States, can write English pefectly?
Maybe I'm more sensitive on this matter than others since it is much closer to me. This forum has been much better than others that I have seen, and it should maintain the way it has been. All members have a common interest, MDX, and we should all be inclusive rather than exclusive. |

The best way to deal with this guy is to IGNORE him. I think our fine moderators need to go after people who add fuel to the fire by replying to this guy's threads!!!
All of a sudden these discussions turn to race, politics, etc.
I had the "itchy fingers" ever since I saw all his posts. I really want to say that I AGREE WITH THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD |

Certainly not all Americans (born here or naturalized) can write perfect English. As I re-read the original post all that was said was that the troll was easy to spot because of the poor English. Sometimes the facts are simply reported without any "ulterior" intentions/motives, but rather to emphasize a point.
For instance there was great flap in this counrty a while back when some proposed recognizing "Ebonics" as a second language in certain public school systems. NOTE: NO RACIST INTENT EITHER STATED OR IMPLIED IN THE PREVIOUS STATEMENT!!!!!! My point is that the phrase "English as a second language" goes beyond race, country of origin, education, etc. It was used I believe as a figure of speech and that is part of the American culture. |
