The Dog Ate the Rear Seat Belt - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am not kidding. I buckled my 100 pound white boxer into his car harness and pulled the seat belt through it as usual. Usually he just sits there looking out the window. This time he laid down and apparently went to sleep. A hundred miles later, I discovered that he had gnawed about half way through the seat belt. Bad dog! Anyhow, I have three options. I could just forget about it and let people use the belt as it is. After all, it hasn't come apart yet. I could just remove the seat belt and not let anyone sit there. Or, I could replace the belt. I am absolutely certain that replacement would be a multi-hundred buck experience at the dealership. Is the belt available for do-it-yourself installtion? Is this even asdvisable, since it might require major disassembly and, perhaps, complicated inertia reel adjustments?

You might as well just replace the belt. :4:

If the belt's partially torn it cannot be used safely. Don't let anyone (or anything) you care about use it.

I'd get it replaced. Which belt was eaten? L and R rears easier to replace than the fronts (crash pretensioners) or 2nd row center (roofmount), I'd think. I'd have the dealer do it regardless.

No bones or steak for the dog til the new belt is paid off :)

You cannot just replace the belt. The dealer will only sell you the set(belt and bunckle). I think it's the law.

Option 4, trade the dog in for the belt and buckle!:20:

Just kidding, I would have them replace it.

You may never need it, but if if you do, it could make all the difference.

I hate it when that happens.

Happened to me a few times when I was going to school (don't ask how long ago that was). My dog was on a different diet. Ate homework.:jester:

Yeah, get the new belt assembly from Tim. Maybe a service manual while you're at it.
And Certainly get a cargo separator/ Boxer retention net.

Definitely replace the belt.....it will no longer do its job as required in an accident.

Replace the belt - safety first. As far as the dog... thats what dogs do. My dog went through everything (mostly when he was younger) from two Jets hats (no comments please), toiler paper, etc. but no furniture.

The replacement of the belt will be covered as a comprehensive loss under your insurance policy. Depending on your deductible and the amount of the loss, that may be the way to go.

LOL, jswift2000, the Raider Nation is always recruiting... there is room for you... come join 'the dark side'... the Jets don't deserve such a fine gentleman as a fan...:D :D

I'd ask the dealer to replace/repair the belt. Maybe you might even be able to get the dealer to correct your seat belt situation for free due to potential liabilty issues(?) Seriously, you have no seat belt there! It might be worth a try!
jswift2000
Ive been a jets fan for a loooong time... back to the days of Richard Todd. Now that they traded their team to the Redskins, we should have a better season this year.

I'll never come to the darkside but you guys do have some great fans... :D
