| I am looking at purchasing a 2001 MDX, with average miles. Am wondering if there is anything with the 2001 I should be aware of. How are they holding up? Anying problem areas? Any suggestions? Thanks, ya'll. |

Most all inherent problems with the 2001 should be fixed on any 2001 you pick up now. You can find those on this forum with a little searching. I know they included things like weeping mirrors, etc.
Overall, about the only complaints surrounded things like wind noise.
Thinner windshield than later models, and the different position of the front roof rack crossmember were the main reasons. Somewhat less insulation, so more road noise too. These are quibbles not real problems IMHO.
But overall, it should be a reliable vehicle. Make sure all the service has been completed. IF it got regular service at an Acura dealer it should be traceable by VIN number in the dealer's computer. |

01's have held up pretty well; no pattern failures from wear or widespread mechanical issues. Like DaleB mentioned, any pattern problems ("TheThud" or "Weeping Mirrors") should have been dealt with via TSB at the dealer. If they haven't been, you'll notice pretty quickly and since it's under warranty it'll be handled relatively painlessly.
If windnoise via the windshield is an issue, you can do DMor's "screen spline" mod which takes 2 minutes and works well.
I'd just make sure the car hasn't been in any wrecks and that it's been maintained according to schedule.
(you can search for any of the terms I've put in quotes for more info on any of them) |

This is an example of how we discuss problems in a logical rational way:cool:

My Touring/Navi model's rolling along just fine at 48+K.
You might ask about the maintenance record on your model, just to be sure things have been kept up to date.
Are you looking at the base model or touring? |

I am looking at the touring model.
Glad to know there are not too many problems. Am wondering if a 2002 or 2003 windshield could replace the 2001 windshield??? Seems like the biggest problems is wind/road noise. |

No, recent postings say they don't fit. The spline trick is supposedly effective.
Don't forget to run any candidate through carfax.com
Worth every penney if it is a vehicle you are seriously considering. |

Wait a minute - wasn't there a post that said there was no difference in part numbers for windshield replacements?
Of course, I'm too lazy to look for that :) , (actually too busy this AM) - but maybe one of our crack team of MDX.org residents could track it down... |

Too lazy here, too. I recall folks saying "no fit" because of the thicker glass and lack of space in the 01's; the part numbers were different at some point. BUT there was also a post (I think) indicating that the 01 windshield part number has been superceded with -- yup -- the 02/03 part number. I also seem to remember someone getting a rockchip replacement from a 3rd party (Safelite?) that they had only one part number for the X.

Getting back to original question - after 2.5 years and mere 20K miles, I am yet to experience a "Scheduled Maintenance" visit that will ONLY DEAL with scheduled maintenance :(
From THUD (at least 6 visits), weeping mirrors (3 visits), broken rear wiper motor(3 visits), pass airbag harness recall, AC condensate leaking into passenger's foot-well - to dashboard and gearshift lighting flickering (not fixed yet - waiting for the next service appt  ), to squeaky and misaligned glove box (attempted to fix 2 times - still squeaks) to having to replace entire rear wiper assembly to steering-wheel mounted audio controls working "incorrectly" (not yet fixed - next appt.) - all in all this car has been of a sub-par quality BASED ON MY EXPECTATIONS.
Otherwise - a great vehicle :3: |
