| Does anybody tow a boat or travel trailer with their MDX? How well does it do when you hitch up 4000 lbs? |

Not yet.
Do a search. There was a good thread on this a year or so ago. |

| U haul 4X8 over 160 miles, weight about 1600 total. Over hills and winding roads, 65-70 mph most of the way. No problem. |

I haven't yet, but will be in a month and a half. We'll be moving from FL to NV. And the wife doesn't want to drive separate vehicles.
Any of you guys towed a car on a flat bed trailer before? Particularly an Integra? I have looked at a couple U-Haul trailers and there were rated 2000 lbs empty. Adding the car's weight, ~2700 lbs will break the MDX's rated 3500 lbs limit for cars and even 4500 lbs for boat!
Do you know if there are car trailers out there that are less than 1000 lbs empty?
Thanks for any input...

| No towing here, just a Hidden Hitch for the bike rack. |

I have towed my boat in and out of the water about 3 times so far. Each time my X did very well.
When backing up, I had to put the right rear-view mirror in the "middle" position so I could be back and not down at the ground. Good view out the back at what I was doing too.
The X had plenty of power to pull the boat out of the water on a sandy boat landing.
As it was salt water, I made sure to rinse with fresh water the underside of my X very well! |

| I have a small utility trailer (designed to hold an ATV). Have pulled it on several scout and camping trips (300+ miles each) at interstate speeds (75+ mph), and on unpaved logging roads, with no problem. Also use it around town to pick up gardening supplies, mulch, topsoil, etc. Has a gross weight of about 2,000 pounds. |

Use my MDX to tow our boat. Fully loaded (for vacation) the weight comes in around 3500 lbs plus 5 adults in the X.
Longest trip with trailer - 500 miles 1 way on fairly flat expressway (Michigan) mileage averaged 20.3 mpg (normally about 24.7mpg).
When I trailer closer to home, Western NY, I get about 17-18mpg when traveling on 2 lane roads that are fairly hilly.
Overall, the X tows pretty well. Minimal trailer hitching but does exhibit moderate pitching when crossing intersections.
If you really trailer alot, you really want to look at a full frame vehicle with a high torque V8 (Ford Expedition type). You won't get the mileage but it is a much more capable tow vehicle. But since I usually only tow the boat 10-12 times a year, the MDX works really well.
Note: Due to superior visibility, the MDX makes backing a trailer a piece of cake! |
