Fuel Gauge - Click HERE for Original Thread

I was wondering if any one else has this problem. My 2002 MDX's fuel gauge recently is acting funny. When I fill up the tank, the gauge does not show full. It stops right before the full line, between the 2nd to the last line on the gauge and the full line. Aften I travel around 30-40 miles, or use 1-2 gallons, then the gauge will go to full.

Also, since that has been happening, when I fill the tank, I notice the mileage on the dash shows I have 215 miles to go before empty. I am getting around 16.2 mpg presently. Before, at 16.4 mpg, the gauge would read 265 miles to empty when I fill the tank.

I don't know if the two are related because just recently, the meter said I had 48 miles left till empty, but I had about a 1/4 tank of gas left. It just doesn't seem right.

Any ideas? or anyone else notice this problem?

Sounds like the calibration or float sensor is off. I would have it fixed. It should read just slightly above the F when completely filled.

I should have clarified, yes it does not go all the way up at once. But it does not seem to take much more than a couple of miles, not 20 or 30+.
It seems to behave like most cars I've had.

Dale, my gauge and range indicator used to do that, but they changed about a month ago and now the gauge does not go back for 30 or so miles and the range data does not change for over 100 miles and never seems to get it quite right.

I suspect it's the sender and I'll probably have the dealer look at it. I have to bring it in for a surging problem anyway. EGR, I think.

Don't know if the float sensor that was mentioned got dislodged from being stuck.

My fuel gauge now goes past the "F" when I fill the tank. I didn't do anything to it. I do notice that it stays at F for a while, then drops to 3/4 of a tank quickly

i'm having similar problems at now, and actually my car is sitting at the dealer right now, but the service guy totally ignored my complaint, and said "thats just the way it is, kinda weird but what are you going to do..."

and i mentioned it each time i bring it in for a change and they basically said they don't see a problem and can't do anything but today i noticed after i made the complaint as the guy was filling out his work order he didn't even put it on

i hate dealer service departments...
