Just wanted to let everyone know that I just came back from XenonDepot's shop, where I met the guys behind the company.
Long story short, they installed HIDs on my X, and it was a breeze! Actually, most of the time was taken up by us looking for one of the plastic clips we lost
In any case, these guys are first class, very friendly and helpful. I will put up some of the pictures of the installation shortly. I still have to drive when it's dark, but even turning the headlights on in the garage made a HUGE difference. |

| I understand washing the car and cleaning the interior, but washing the engine? Maybe I'm just too lazy. Also, don't forget, I've had the MDX for 2.5 years now, which equals to 3 winters :4: , so you can imagine the amount of salt and sand the the X went through. There, that's my excuse :D |

Did you ever get any of the ballast protectors for the people that bought your kits in the past and want to put the ballast protectors on now?
Also if you wash your engine without the ballast protectors will it harm the ballasts?
Thanks
Tony |
|
|
| XenonDepot |
Hey Tony!
Yup! Contact me directly and I will see what I can do for you!
In regards to washing your engine bay. These ballast enclosures are still not water proof. Essentially, they are non-conductive and will simply add another layer of protection. If you are planning on washing your engine bay I would suggest either removing the ballasts or even just covering them with a plastic bag.

Steve |

Everything. People always post to boards "I got X installed" but they never go into it more. Where did they buy them from, how much were they, whats involved, how they look, how long they took to ship. How were the install instructions, how long did the install take, etc... etc... so those of us not so mechanically inclined can maybe do the project. |

Hi Y2ks2k:
___About all I can add is this … With a few prompts on the HW install and reviews from those that have installed them, they are probably easier to install than Fender Flares. I can almost guarantee they will install and work as advertised given the rave reviews and the pics from the group of X’ers that have braved the install before us.
___After installing most of the accessories available to the X other than the steering wheel, the accessories I have installed have proven to be easier than you would first imagine. The HID upgrade appears to be about as hard to install as the hitch and trailer harness with a lot less bull work involved if that helps.
___If you have the cash available, just do it! Pass on any pointers you run into while you are at it as well. I was looking over the interior of the engine bay/compartment for a good place to mount the (2) Ballast’s just this afternoon and believe me, there is plenty of space to mount in hard point locations which can only help.
___About the only item I am waiting on is for the Xenon Depot to have a true Group Buy for the 9006 HID’s at around $450.00 or so ;) I will probably be waiting a good long time for that to happen however :(
___Good Luck

y2ks2k,
Another advantage in installing these lights on an MDX as opposed to other vehicles is the amount of room youhave to work with. Some vehicles require you to take off the front bumper or headlight assembly just to get at the stock halogen bulbs. The MDX will not require you to do that as the stock halogen bulb is easily accessible. The kit is plug+play and will not require you to cut, mod, or tap any wires.
The kit does come with an instruction manual complete with pics.

| How is that quite a few other vendors offer a 5yr warranty on hid retrofit kits? |
|
|
| XenonDepot |
Hello,
The important thing to realize is that these kits are not manufactured by Philips. Philips components are simply used within the kit. These components are modified (custom moulded 9006 bases) to fit the MDX (or other halogen headlights). The 5 year warranty is through the vendors themselves (not Philips).
This is why it is important to purchase your HID conversion kit from a reputable and reliable source. I believe that if you perform a search on XenonDepot and the type of service that we offer you would be more than satisfied.
Furthermore, as you can see from the post count we do take the time to respond to both your emails and the posts on the forum.

See? That's my beef with the HID's. That pic you posted with the xenons/fogs on at night...The fogs now stand out as YELLOW and just out of synch. They need to be changed to bluish light too...cuz to my eye it just doesn't look right. That's always been my issue with xenons on a lot of cars out there. Especially the Lexus cars with that almost flourescent yellow color of the fog lights. I used to always have my fogs off on my Audi cuz it just looked weird with them being on and yellow in between the blue xenons.
I know, minor issue...but car will just look cohesive like that...especially MDX has the fogs are quite large and pronounced. |

| I have the same kit that xenon depot offers and its a snap to install. If anyone has any questions when they install their kit, please pm me and I will help as much as I can. If you have the money, buy the kit. TO help out with the glare issue, i'm working on a shield and I will post pics when im done. A shield basically prevents the light from hitting the bottom part of the headlamp housing. Next time you are walking next to a 2002 or 2003 Acura 3.2 TL, look where the bulb sits in the house and you will see the shield. If you look at a TL at night with the headlights on, you will see that the bottom half of the headlight is not reflecting light, hence no glare. SOrry for the babble but I like hids and im trying to find ways to cut down on the negativity from anti-hid people. |

paul123,
contact http://www.illusion-lighting.com. You will need to send them a set of headlights and for $800 (i think), they will retrofit the projectors and include the xenon bulbs and ballasts. If I had the cash, it would be a no brainer. |

I'm a newbie with a 2002 MDX and have been trying to keep up with all of the great info on Xenondepot's HID conversion kit. I too, am waiting for the next group buy (I just need to decide on which kit).
I have an extended question for anyone... What happens to the other lights once the 9006 lows are converted to HID? It's costly to convert the highs and fogs to HID, so what PIAA bulbs were used to come fairly close to the HID look?
BTW, I'm totally convinced with the HID conversion. I'll be calling Xenondepot.

Hello,
I apologize for the delayed response.
We recently held some group buys which enabled members to get an even further reduced price. However there was a minimum requirement of 10 confirmed orders before we shipped out the kits.
Please view these threads:
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=489313
http://www.newcelica.org/forums/sho...ight=xenondepot
Pricing was as follows:
Philips 4100k - $399.99 + $19.99 (shipping, handeling, insurance)
Philips 5000k - $414.99 + $19.99 (shipping, handeling, insurance)
Philips Ultinon 6000k - $499.99 + $19.99 (shipping, handeling, insurance).
These prices are extremely low and this is why we need at least 10 people to participate before we can ship out our orders. If you guys feel that there is sufficient interest on this forum I will have no problems making this offer to acuramdx.org. Furthermore, if you have any family or friends that want to jump in on this deal I will gladly extend this offer to them and will count their order as a one of the 10....
Once we have 10 confirmed orders I will begin shipping out the kits.
What do you guys think?
Steve
PS If you guys want to go ahead with this just let me know and I will provide you guys with the link to order the kit at the discounted group buy price. |
|
|
| ndahbar |
| Err, sign me up as one of the 10 that you need. I'll take one order of the 4100K's for 400 bucks please! What do you need us to do? Order from your site? By when? |
|
|
| ndahbar |
One last question (to EVERYONE):
Ok, why in the world do any of you get anything besides the 4100K's? Being extra blue turns some people on or something?
 |
|
|
| ndahbar |
Dammit, actually I have one more. :p
Err...I really don't like how fog lights look with xenons. What is best to do in order to match the light/color output of the fogs to 4100K xenon low-beams? On the MDX the fog lights are quite large so this is especially important. |
|

Hi XenonDepot:
___Ok, I’ll bite so go ahead and start up the Group Buy for 10 here in the AcuraMDX.org forums. I will take a pair of 4100K 9600’s for our X myself. 10 X’ers wanting HID’s may take a while but I have seen a new batch of members purchasing accessories like mad just recently and 10 orders may come about even sooner than even I could have imagined.
___Ndahbar, I believe most simply want that Prism’ed style blue hue that comes from the BMW’s, Merc’s, and whatever else out there. Even though they use 4100 or 4300K HID’s, the output from the projector style lenses gives them that bright bluish white hue. Secondly, are you sure you want to place HID’s in the FOG positions? I mean its way over the top as far as lighting output is concerned but it most certainly is not needed and is relatively costly… In either case, that makes 3 :D
___Thanks again to XenonDepot and as always, Good Luck

ALL RIGHTY THEN!!! Wahoooo!! But now I'm confused `cause of the Which K of HID are the brightest????? thread. I was considering the 6000K, thinking they were the brightest, daylightish. Average noon sunlight is 4800K. Over there they say 4100K is the brightest. XenonDepot also offers 5000K, which is closer to 4800K. :8:
Reading a little more, I guess its the 4100Ks that provide the purest of light, no annoying bluish tint. |

The Philips 4100k bulbs take approx 100-500 hours before they colour shift. The bulb will change from a white/yellow to a white/blue.

The 4100k kit will definitely be the brighest. Please review the technology section of our website to obtain more information.

I got lured into the same system, Wayne. Fortunately I was not waiting for merchandise at the time. While I can appreciate PayPal's concern over security I was amazed they had such cumbersome verification system.
I recently purchased merchandise at buy.com and they now have a 'bill me' option. They send your merchandise, and concurrently you will get a bill in the mail, and you can mail it back with your check, MO, etc. or pay online to the billing agency.
They don't have a charge for this option, unless it's reflected in the merchandise price everyone pays, but it's a nice alternative. |

Hello,
I realized Paypal can be a tad annoying however for security reasons we can only accept payment by paypal or money order. Paypal ensure both us and you that we are both dealing with legitimate people.
If you do decide to pay us via a money order just email me and I will provide you with all the required information.

Well, since I am now, finally, the owner of a brand new MDX (WOO-HOO!!!!!!!! :18: ) I am interested as well. I love HID's, the ones with the blue tinge to them. So, I got a few questions I guess....
1) Are these things safe?
2) Can I (an absolute misfit in any mechanical project) truly install these things properly?
3) Is this group buy thing still open?
4) Does xenondepot have HID's with that blue tinge (Man I love those!!)?
5) For those that have them, how are the xenondepot ones compared to other HID's? Specifically, how do they look in comparison? If I am going to buy them I want them to look real sweet...crisp, sharp, bright, yadda yadda yadda...
6) Does Xenondepot make foglamp HID's? If not, does anyone?
7) Any general advice, tips, etc, regarding HID's? Much appreciated!
Thanks in advance to all!!!

As a newbie, I wanted to thank Steve and let all of you other X'ers about my experience with XenonDepot.
Over the past 1.5 weeks, I worked with Steve at XenonDepot to purchase my HIDs because a groupbuy was not established and I needed them for a road trip this weekend. I installed them with the help from ACURAMDX.ORG members installation suggestions and the boxed instructions. The installation wasn't as smooth as I wanted, but the EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE from Steve (personnally I might add) is second to none. One of the connectors was not on securely and came off. He really helped me to straighten all of it out.
What a difference... between night & day. I bought them for the brightness, not for looks. It's what I expected and have to admit that next to buying the X, this is the next best thing.
THANKS STEVE!!! |

13,
HIDs are very easy to install and takes about an hour to and hour and a half. They are safe and intended for off road use only (whatever), try to stay away from the blue coated bulbs b/c they shorten the life of the bulb and the output wont be as bright as 4100k. You can buy another set for the fogs b/c they use 9006 bulbs. PM me if you have any questions about the install. |

I think I asked this before...and it was answered with a YES: The question was: Will the auto-headlight feature still work if we use the HID's? It makes no sense that it wouldn't, but just wanted to verify, thanks.
And no, I don't wanna put HID's for my fog lights! LOL. No, I was just saying that they will look out of place being so yellow compared to the HID's. So can we change the bulb to something extremely white or slightly blue from the aftermarket? I think the answer is "DUH yeah!" but from where and what do those of you that did it recommend?
I'll check XenonDepot's website now for the grp buy. Count me in! |

Hello,
I apologize for the delayed response.
We recently held some group buys which enabled members to get an even further reduced price. However there was a minimum requirement of 10 confirmed orders before we shipped out the kits.
Please view these threads:

Hey is this what I need to select?

How interesting that I was commenting on PayPal's cumbersome (I never said ineffective) policy of checking account verification and I get an email from PayPal on their Verfication and Protection policy for customers, the very next day.
If everyone else who uses PayPal just received the same notice that's fine, otherwise let the mole pop his head out so I can take aim! :11: |

Hello,
You would need to order the 9006 kit as the MDX uses 9006 bulbs for the low beams.
