Wifey got into an accident about six months ago and had some disc bulging. . .

Would anyone know if I purchased a spa, whether that would be covered by my health insurance?

Generally not. I think even if a physician prescribed it most insurance companies would not cover it. If it's part of a PT program it usually has be at a doctor's office or PT facility as a part of a prescribed PT program.

It would be in your insurance handbook and if you don't have that you can call your insurance company for an explanation of benefits that you are covered for.

My guess it that coverage would vary from provider to provider... Another issue to ponder... is cost that is not covered by insurance tax deductible (medical) ... Hmmm

Almost certainly not. You can always call them and check, though.
Insurance may pay for hydrotherapy (when prescribed by a physician), but not the capital cost of installing a spa.

And check with your tax guy before you think about writing it off as a medical deduction. First, any time you claim med deductions over the 7% of salary threshold, your return will be looked at. Second, you claim a spa, and you'll have IRS climbing all over you. If you're not squeaky clean on everything else, look elsewhere.

When I bought my spa, they had a notice that it may be a deductible expense - insurance won't cover it, but a 5-6K deduction is nothing to sneeze at!

You'll need a statement from your physician, and would likely owe him a nice bottle of wine!

As usual thank you, everyone. . .
