I've noticed that everytime I press on the brakes from "Park to Drive" that the breaks make a "metallic adjusting" kinda sound. Is this normal. After the first time then it's ok no sound. Car has 5Kmiles on it. I took the car in for oil change last week and the service guy said that the sound was normal for Acura cars. He explained it as the calipers adjusting?
Thanks |

Same here - 2002 with 20K. Seen other threads here that all suggest this is "normal" for the X.

There is some other information around about it - do a search for "brake clunk" and you should find it...

Ok so I did a search and apparently every mdx ( or almost every mdx) has this problem. Someone had posted a 800 # to call
800 -382 - 2238. I will call this number and find out if Acura has a fix for this or not.
From the postings it seems that the acura service person was correct it is a floating caliper ( which I think is a manufacturing defect) but not cause to worry. Brakes and not worry. Anyway I will call the number and see what happens.
Or maybe I won't do anything.
Thanks for the replies guys. |

You will notice that the click comes after you have just backed up or out of the driveway. You pressed the brakes to stop and then shifted to foward and the first time you hit your brakes there is the click. It is the self adjusting mechanism in the brakes. Annoying but normal.

The brakes on my X squeaks the first couple of times I apply the brake. It's not the brake clunk. It only happens when it has been sitting for a while. Is that normal? I dont recall my 02 doing that.

Believe there is a TSB for this, look in the problems section or do a find on thud. Hope this helps.

Aaaaaah, the infamous floating caliper "feature" as my dealer calls it...I call it lame for a $40K car. This is clearly an annoyance and if Acura is listening, they ought to fix it and design it out of future vehicles.

This info was posted else wheres on this site, it is a TSB. I showed this info to my service manager, and told him I wanted these parts installed. He ordered them and they will be in next week. No charge as they are under warranty. He said they never heard of these parts, was glad to know about them. Good Luck!

Hard as I searched, I can't find a TSB regarding this brake problem. Does anyone where this info came from? I'm due for a 22.5K service soon and I'd like to get it fixed. Thanks.

I had it fixed and 'clunk' sound went away for a few months and now it just came back.
