Here is the fax I go from Acura about the delay function on our MDX:
“Service Details
The variable intermittent wiper feature on the listed models differs from other vehicles because it is speed-sensitive. The wipers have three settings: variable intermittent, low, and high. In low and high, the wipers operate continuously. In variable intermittent the wipers operate as follows:
- The wipers operate once every few seconds at speeds above 12 MPH.
- When stopped or below 12 MPH the wiper delay increases by approximately 4 seconds.
- When the brakes are released, the wipers sweep once to give the driver a clear view of the road. When the vehicle speed reaches 12 MPH the wipers resume at their preset sweep frequency.
- When you drive over 12 MPH with intermittent set to its shortest delay, the wipers switch to low speed; this is how they’re supposed to work.”
Just thought some would want to know!

| Did you get this from Acura corporate or from your dealer? If from Acura corporate, who/how did you get in touch with them? This would be useful to contact them with respect to the problems concerning the "fuzzy" seats, the gas tank clunk, and the "leaking" mirrors (which seem to be common). |

Seeing as it's raining here, I'll have to pay attention to see if what is written here actually happens.
Has any one noted the wiper blades bouncing/dragging on the windshield if it isn't very wet? |

| My dealer gave me the fax from the Acura "Tech Line Knowledgebase Document" Ref # 7869 The fuzzy seats they fixed by removing the covers and shaving the fuzz off from the inside and the thud they fixed by tighting the bolts. I forgot to ask about the mirror. |

Yes, but I've noticed this with several vehicles with stock wipers and "dry" windows. Usually, a better blade and a good application of Rain-X solves the problem. |

| We have been getting a lot of rain the last few days and we have had no problems with the wipers. Two observations: First we really like the speed variable intermittent wipers. They seem to work as advertised. They are slow at stops, speeds up as we speed up. Cool. Second, kind of wish the rear wiper had an intermittent speed. It has only the one medium speed. However I will say the MDX does not kick up nearly as much road spray as our Expedition does. With our Expy you have to use the slow/intermittent rear wiper even if it is not raining and the roads are merely wet. Not so the MDX. With the Expy, if you even drive on a street wet with grass sprinkers you will have to wipe the back glass. |

Ditto on the rear wiper, an intermittent would be nice.
I find no problem with the rear washer, it sends a stream of fluid down the center of the window that the wiper spreads evenly over the center (this has been criticized in previous posts.)
I didn't note the wipe from stop to go feature, maybe I wasn't stopped long enough? |

| Wow on the wiper functions! I wonder what other interesting tidbits are lurking to be discovered. |

Great info, toml. I was driving myself batty counting the intervals at stop lights and then while moving, trying to figure out what the rhyme and reason was.
I second the comments about the intermittent rear wipers--at least the MDX has more than two speeds of front wipers (I recall reading that the ML320 doesn't even have intermittents on the front--is this really true?) |
