Hello there,
My parents are considering purchasing the MDX and driving in the states before shipping back to the Taiwan. I found some links on the internet regarding the duty and commodity taxes which adds up to 70%. Is that number seems reasonable ? anyone has attempting to import it. Please share your expericence. Thanks |

You can purchase a brand new X in taiwan.
And it is true that the tax for import cars can add up to 70%(It used to be 100%) Because Taiwan wasn't in the WTO.
I am not sure if this is still true. For the scholars from Taiwan, you could have once in your lifetime to ship a motor back to Taiwan without pay the duty Taxes.
Hope I can help your question. |

You should talk to local custom broker in Taiwan and find out exactly what you need to pay. Brand new car is 100% duty. Duty is less as the car ages.
MDX is available in Taiwan through private dealer. I think you may not save much by doing it yourself. Unless this MDX has special meaning to you.
If your parents plan on using MDX in Taipei then MDX maybe too big for in town driving.

A friend of mine told me he saw a MDX in Taipei last year. I don't know how, but I guess it is possible to do so if you don't mind on how much you are spending.
Good luck. |

| I can't imagine that how could you drive a MDX in Taipei. Even CR-V looks huge there. |

There are bunch of S-class, or 7-series in the city of taipei.
MDX will fit just fine in Taiwan (Maybe not in the parking space). |
