I'm sure I'm not the only one being deluged with those new pop-up "instant messages."
I have Pop Up Stopper installed, and that works great for the usual pop up and pop under windows, but it doesn't do a thing for instant message pop ups.
Half the instant messages are for software to eliminate the damn things, which strikes me as being sort of like "protection money." I'd never give money to any company that makes its living by annoying me.
I tired going into registry and futzing around with the "ignore all" setting, but that didn't work. I'm nervous about messing with the registry anmore anyway.
Anybody find an easy way to kill these? Thanks in advance. |

The solution kind of depends on where/how the messages are being generated. Can you post a screen shot of one of them?
Also, the forums at SpywareInfo.com are a good place to search for information and get help with this kind of stuff.
Here's a good thread on their forums that discusses ways to get rid of them if they are coming from the Windows Messaging Service:

Good luck. Let us know how it goes. |

Thanks rjmitche!
Ironically, I also have spyware loaded (SpyBot) but it hadn't stopped these intrusions.
I did as they said in the forums link you provided since that describes what I'm getting. I hope it works, but it'll take a while to know for sure. Thanks again for your help! |

Go to your control panel and choose Administrative Tools and then choose Services. Under Services you will see a service called Messenger, go ahead and disable this service and reboot your system and will not get any more of those annoying messages. Disabling Messenger will not effect your Outlook, Outlook Express, AIM, Microsoft Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger. Good luck, let me know how it works for you.' |

| If that dosent work, try getting a router. I have noticed the same problem when I installed XP, but after I got a router they seemed to go away. |

If you're using MSN IM 5.0 you can check the following on the tools|option|privacy tab:
"Only people on my allow list can see my status and send me messages" |

I knew I came to the right place for help with this! :)
Thanks again. This cure seems to have worked. Of course now that this annoyance has been solved, someone's gonna come up with another method of intrusion that's even more annoying, right?
I'm sure there are lots of other folks reading here that this has also helped. |
