How can you resize a photo from your digital camera without making it blurry????? Do you take the car soooooooooo far away and crop it to a avator size???
JMT2003
It all depends on the pixels and the setting at which the digicam is set to prior to taking the picture.

If you have a fine/sharp setting, use it. This setting requires more memory, thus limits the number of shots available to you while the larger files will afford you greater flexibility and less distortion.

For email pics, I use the image icon and click on the resize button to utilize the percent shrink feature.

For printing pics, the fit to page options in the print menu work well.

The amount of distance is dependant on your camera. Your manual should hit on this topic. Generally, 3 to 12 feet will work:)

A portrait setting on your camera (some say a little flower, but in mine it’s a mountain icon) will have everything in focus.

The standard setting is to focus on whatever the focus beam/s hits.

Thanks JMT2003 but what's a fine/sharp setting???

I assume by "resize" you are trying to enlarge a photo. If so you need to have a lot of megapixels to accomplish this. That is why a 2 MP camera is OK for most shots but is less than desireable if you try to enlarge a shot to 5 X 7 or 8 X 10. We have a 4 MP camera and even with that wish we had more when trying to enlarge.

Mine is 3.2 mege pixels and I want to resize it so small that it fit to the avator. Do you think it's possible???
jswift2000
If you have photoshop, go to Image-->Image Size. My camera defaults to 1600X1200 and I cut it down to 100 X 100. If not photoshop, what program r u using?

2002 Acura MDX!,

Resizing smaller should not be a problem. If you want a pic for an avatar, you should resize it down to a thumbnail size. Good luck.:29:

I use Microsoft photo editor. Yes, they do have resize but it looks horrible after resizing it.

Hi 2002AcuraMDX:

___It appears as if you are trying to get too much into the picture. A 100x100 or similar sized frame is too small for 3 cars IMHO. As for resizing down in size, just about every photo editing SW package has this capability without losing much detail except for the size of course.

___On a side not, I do all the photo editing on the Desktop since most cameras are either not capable or are too complicated to do anything but the most basic editing.

Hi 2002AcuraMDX:

___Whooa … Now I see what you mean. What type of SW are you using again for the shrink and how is it setup? If for example you copied the 640x480 jpg to your own PC, it shouldn’t have lost a thing. The shrink should not have lost a thing other than size and res by the same amount. What you showed is the smaller size and a much lower quality as well. When you saved, did it ask you for a quality setting?

___In any case, here is the 3 car pic in a 100x47 resolution. Use it if that is what you wanted until you figure out your SW’s setup.

___Good Luck

I usually shoot in hi res (2272X1704) and then just reduce it to 800X600 for posting on here for example, with editing software (PaintShop Pro 7) which will maintain good resolution during the downsize.

In my attempt to duplicate what the others have done, I too failed horribly.

Since you and I seem to have the same SW, I tried an alternate route to downsize the picture.

From your MS Photo editor right click your image, then click on copy.
This will put a copy of the image onto your clipboard.

Then open a blank document in MS Word.

Right click then paste.

You will have the image opened in a word document.

Here just click on the image and you will see a black line boarder appear. Move your mouse to one of the corners of the frame until you see an oblique arrow appear. You can click on this arrow and drag the frame to your desired size.

Forget the word, unless you can figure out how to save it as a photo.

Now.... did you click the "smooth" box in photo editor when you resized it.

I don't think his issue is withe the JPG lossy quality but the aspect ratio of the resize. If you use Photoshop, open a large image the choose Image from the menu bar and then Image Size from the drop-down menu. Check the box at the bottom of the resulting window to "Constrain Proportions". Now when you make a length or width adjustment, PShop will automatically resize the other part to maintain the aspect ratio.

Yes, your idea worked but the quality wasn't as good as I thought (at least better then before). Thanks JMT2003 :2:

What is a smooth box and where is it   ????
JMT2003
MS Phot editor...

It's in the pop up box that appears after you hit the resize button.

Checking this box may help....

Hi All:

___This should help describe the options available under ACDSee … I can resize to anything I want with or without the original AR being kept or I can save as a percentage of the original from a single area.

Thanks Xcel....

In MS Photo editor you can get the pixel size by clicking on the down arrow under "UNITS."

Now those of us with the crappy software can hang with the pros:p

Hi Jmt2003:

___I use Photoshop 7.x for blurring license plates and such as well but it is to complicated for my simple mind to do much more than that ;) ACDSee 4.0 and 5.0 are pretty darn good for what they have to offer which is just about anything us mortals would need for basic photo editing. Just about any decent Photo editing SW package has the same features. It’s almost a commodity industry based on price alone … for the average homeowner that is.

I used the "smooth" thing JMT2003 taught me but I still prefer using Microsoft WORD to resize it even thought it's more complicated.

Here is another picture I resized with Mirosoft WORD. The size is 89x65.

Now I'll try to resize the 3 car image to a avator size using WORD and see what it'll happen.
2002 Acura MDX!
Oh no!!!!!!!!! It didn't turn out as good as I thought :( . Is it because it has 3 cars in it??? Size is 124x53.

Hi BklynMDX:

___Another one of those neat ACDSee features … Ctrl – Shift – P and whatever the highlighted window is, I capture it. You have the choice of the content of the window like the attachment, the Window itself including the header, or the entire Desktop if you wish.
