Rear ended on the Freeway!!! - Click HERE for Original Thread

AAhhh F*CK!!!

Wanna hear a classic f*cking Father's day weekend story???

My wife, my son and I drove in our MDX to my parents house to stay overnight so we can car pool to our friends wedding together. The reception started at 5:00PM was stuck in traffic for two freakin hours to the wedding and when we get their, my 17 month old son of course have had it because he was in the car too long. The wedding reception did not start until 8:00PM. It did not end until 11:00PM. We left the wedding site at 11:15PM and got rerouted to another "detour" by Caltrans because they were working on the freeway. Well...we got lost and had to reroute the maps to get us home the fastest and we did not get home until 1:30AM in the morning. NICE!

Okay..So I had a chance to have sometime to myself which I had planned for like months(those of you who have kids know) to take my motorcycle out for a ride when we got back to my house...NOPE...never took place..Why??

On the way home on Sunday morning...(FATHER's Day) my wife decided to drive the MDX back...entering a freeway exit onto another freeway..This dude in a 1980s Buick sedan come hawling ass off the exit...never stopped...REAR-ENDED our MDX at like 55MPH, the impact was so huge that it lifted the rear end of our MDX, pushed the rear to the left and force the front to swerve to the right and towards the curb of the exit...THANK GOD or else our MDX would of rear-ended the Chevy Surburban in the front. But thats not all...This guy's car that rear ended me skipped the lane went to the left and clipped an oncoming Hond CRV and took out its rear right wheel completely off the wheel hub.

THANK YOU f*cking very much ass-wipe.. for my Father's day weekend present.!!!

In shocked momentarily...I looked back, afraid what our MDX looks like at the rear...open the door, walked out and saw the guy that rear ended me walked to me...and guess what came out of his mouth the very first thing??? I quote, " Man...what happened? I can't believe it and my driver's license just got suspended... But I have insurance.."

I looked at this guy thinking in my head...Okay...Do you want me to kill you now infront of all these rubbernecks that is driving by or do you want me to kill you later after I gather my thoughts.. I was sooo f*cking pissed because my son...my most very precious son was in the car. THANK GOD my wife and son is okay. My wife is sore so she needs to call our insurance back to tell them that she needs to go to the doctor.

Anyway, his car looks totalled. I have an appointment with the adjuster for an estimate on Tuesday.

I took digital pics and will be posting it later.

Happy F*cking Father's Day... :3:

Fireblade6,

What a story...sad but true. I am glad you and your family were not hurt. Go ahead and kill the guy, but make sure his insurance company takes care of your MDX.
jswift2000
Sorry to hear that brother. Thank the lord that your son and wife are okay... I'm glad things werent worse and the fact they were not seriously injured is a wonderful thing. Hang in there...

As for the ass munch that hit your wife, I would have shoved the license plate up his a$$ and pulled it out through the small hole in his johnson!!!

2002 Acura MDX!
OUCH!!! That 's gonna hurt. You should kill that guy in front of everyone!!!!! Thank god you and your family was't injured badly.
BaldEagle
What a nightmare, glad everyone is ok, and hope no one, other than being sore, has any lasting injuries.

Was the guy drunk? What did the police have to say when they wrote up the report. If the guy was driving with a suspended license he should be in jail now!
zubinh
I would make sure you and everyone in the car see doctors for the immense pain you are all feeling especially in your neck and back.:D

Don't forget to contact your lawyer and see if Walmart has neck braces on sale.

Now take his insurance company to the cleaners and get yourself a new X!
hammermdx
So sorry to hear this. Thank God you and you're family are fine. What an as*-hole!!!! I hope they revoke his license permanently.

DaleB
Glad no one is seriously hurt, 'Blade....I agree on claiming everything you can from his insurance company. Serves them right for still covering this loser. (Lucky for all of you they are!)
Dale MDX
Glad everyone is relatively OK. Happy Father's Day anyway!

You know, there really ought to be some SERIOUS penalties for people driving with suspended licenses, driving without insurance, DUI's etc. Like to start, a PERMANENT revocation of driving privileges. (However, that won't do much good, as they'll just drive anyway, and then there's the arguments about inability to get to a job, etc., but, overall, I still think that should be part of the deal). Then, maybe some SERIOUS jail time. This guy ought to spend a year or so locked up. (Just my opinion, and I know prisons are overcrowded). He obviously did something pretty serious to get his license suspended, and then he drove anyway, and was obviously not driving like a normal person would. Maybe a combination of real penalties would make people think twice.

I hope the guy really does have insurance. It seems to me that whatever he did to get a suspended license would have also affected his ins. company's desire to insure him. Now it will, for sure.
capjand4
you can always replace the car. lives are the most important things
DaleB
Let's hope the next words out of his mouth are not, "Oh, I thought I still had insurance, but they cancelled retroactively because they did not know my license had been revoked."

His monthly premium probably cost more than his car was worth.

Hi Fireblade6:

___Thank heavens for the safety of you and your family … I would still be a little hesitant on calling everyone Ok just yet. My wife and I got hit at a stop light by a drunk driver at ~ 55 mph (we were stopped) ~ 10 years ago and it wasn’t until the next day that both my wife and I started to feel the after effects. I was Ok that night but the rest of the week sure was painful. There were no long lasting effects to either of us but watch your family over the next few days and weeks just in case.

___As for the secondary concerns, at least he had insurance.

___So when are you going to pick up the brand new 04 Touring w/ RES and NAVI? With the X’s residual value and the accident description, I think you will be liking those 04 OEM HID’s sooner than you think :D

___Good Luck

He would get all the free transportation he needs at that point, and employment would not even be an issue. Drivers in this category are riding the fence of what's illegal and what's purely criminal in my opinion.
Not much different than catching a parolee with a gun.

Glad everyone's okay, and sorry to hear about the accident. Please be sure to pay attention to any lingering after-effects of the crash. Sometimes you feel fine but a couple of days later you notice something's wrong.

It's a lesser concern, but if the MDX is damaged severely, try to get it totalled, rather than repaired. The insurance settlement should be pretty good (hopefully), and then you could get an improved 2003 model and start the odometer again.
mdxxxx
My condolences Fireblade6... I'm glad everyone is ok.

Stories like this always piss me off... What ever you do, don't stop untill this guy pays big time for his recklessness. We're dealing with peoples lives out here!

Sorry to hear about your misery. Be glad you were in your MDX and that is why everyone is OK, and not seriously hurt. Hopefully his insurance with pay to fix or even replace and upgrade to 2003 or 2004. It definetly is terrible that it happened, but luckily you were in an excellent safe vehicle for the family. I recently got rear ended in New York City (just a slight bump), but luckily I got the driver to pay outside of insurance to replace the bumper. I couldn't believe the body shops wanted $1000 just to replace the bumper. My best wishes to you and the family for a fast recovery and your MDX fixed or even replaced.
Blueflame
Wow, glad to hear everyone is ok.
alphaforcex
Glad to hear that everyone is okay especially your 17 months old.
I too have a 18 months old and really hate to see anything happens
to him especially by someone who has a "suspended-driver-license"
driving on the street! Any thought on why his driver license got
suspended?? My other question is, does insurance company insure
driver with suspended license?? I thought the insurance company
will know when the insurer driver license has been revoked. You do
have uninsured motorist coverage on your policy just in case right?

On the bright side, you can start picturing yourself in a '04
brand new MDX! :)

All the best to your family

That sounds like a Father's Day to forget. Sorry to hear about your horrible day, thankfully your family is OK. :4: Why does it always seem to be scum whose own life they have already ruined, be the ones who try to ruin decent peoples lives? :8: Sounds like the guy reacted just like you might suspect, only worried about himself (and his lack of license), instead of everyone else’s safety, which is why this happened in the first place. Best of luck.

Hey AlphaForceX-

Well I called the CHP(california highway patrol) officer and he told me that the car that the other party drove which rear ended us belongs to his mother. His mother does have a valid license and insurance. But...the ugly thing is his mother DID NOT have him on her insurance so now that puts her in a really hot seat with the CHP and police as to why she let a suspended license drive her car.

I totally agree with you, my wife actually woke up feeling sick this morning because her lower back hurts so much. My neck and left ear hurts and I don't know how my son is feeling. He seems to be okay but I will take him to his doctor anyways to make sure. Thank you very much for the advice.

Yeah...in California..there are really good drivers and really bad drivers. Unfortunately for me...I was involved with an accident with a really bad driver. I have ordered a police report and I will be interested to see what the CHP have to say about his driver's license and as to why he was suspended.

I'm reading your story for the first time after I just got back from a week-long 2000 mile drive on vacation and it makes my skin crawl to think how close we always are to imminent disaster on the highways. Hope everyone will be feeling better soon--but document everything!

When my 2-year old was born, I decided to get the best vehicle I could afford and I haven't been disappointed. Your accident (and other rear-enders) should really convince everyone about the problems with rear-facing seats in many station wagons and the the short cargo areas of other 3rd-row SUVs.

Be prepared to be patient with the damn CHP. When my Honda got rear-ended back in 2000 in the Carmel area, I immediately ordered a report as well. Took them nearly 8 friggin' weeks to get it to me...

GEEEEZ:rolleyes: ..No wonder our state is cutting budget for the CHP department. *sigh*

Why I don't just bend right over...:3:
Fireblade6
Okay...My insurance adjuster gave us an estimate of around $3,500.00 to repair it.

We took it over to the autobody shop where our Acura dealer and also Acura themselves have approved for the repair. The adjuster there at the Autobody shopped laughed and said that it is not that easy because of the way the new Acuras are manufacturered. Because of the new anti-theft and laser barcoding that they do for EACH components of the MDX vehicle..Which I found out is really fascinating...You can't just slap an OEM Acura part on the MDX and say that the vehicle is now to its original manufacturer's specifications. He said that once he orders the part from Acura, then Acura has to find out the Serial Number of the vehicle, re-laser code the part that is being replaced so that the vehicle will be in warranty. So with this said, because I want the vehicle to be in the EXACT condition that it is in.....It is going to COST A LOT more than $3,500.00 to repair. Furthermore, because I want Acura paint to match ESPECIALLY this Nighthawk black color...it is a VERY difficult color to match because its not black and its not blue(For those of you who own this color you guys know what I mean) that also will jack up the price...Sorry but am REALLY picky about my vehicles.

Anyway...when it is all said and done, it is going to be about $9,700.00 and some change. And the vehicle will take four weeks to get done.

:o

Wow~~~ 4 weeks and almost 10K for the repair if wants to be like new? That takes long and a lot of money. I am now wondering what the insurance company will say.

I know most insurance company will grant OEM parts repair when the vehicle is less than 5 years old (Hopefully I am right). I hope your insurance company (or whatever insurance company that is responsible for it) will do the same and pay all the bill.

Anyhow, are you recovered now? Hope you are feeling better by now.

Hey - first post!

Glad to hear you are kind of OK, hope the effects aren't too long lasting.

Man... the accidents u get in these cities... Tampa must have around the # of bad accidents as in California... in the year i have lived here i have seen enough.

Were you stopped when u got hit?
What type of ramp was it that he couldn't stop in time?

The IIHS just released a report and found that roundabouts are much safer than stoplights/cross junctions, and while this would probably not have helped you... it would help to prevent a lot of other accidents, especially severe side crashes.

Don't know why they don't have them here, they are everywhere in England. Well, post those pics.

Drove them in NEW England (rotaries), and in France. You can have them! It's all about who is gutsy enough to go first. Many drivers see it as a challenge. With lights or stop signs there there is no gray area.
jswift2000
I agree. Lights and stop signs are black and white so they're easy. Roundabouts would help in most places but I really think the problem iswith the drivers - come drivers have become too relaxed, too rushed or, as in this case, have an expired lic and are still getting behind the wheel.

I don't have to drive around them anymore :2: Ain't the USA great?:D
Roundabouts are a leftover from ye olden days when life centered around the village square, providing a sense of community. I go back to the UK every 2 or 3 years to visit my brothers, and I have to say all those roundabouts do anymore is provide a place for local seniors to practice their flower gardening. As far as traffic control goes, they remain a hazard. In France they are even worse. Hey, maybe that's where Saddam and his WMD are hidden? :2:

The problem in France with roundabouts is all the French drivers have these little nippy cars that corner well and they are never scared to pull out - the problem is trying to get out yourself - it might scare old people in Florida, but i think its quite fun. By the way, not all roundabouts are big enough to plant flowers in.

There roundabouts can have multiple concentric lanes. You can't always get out on the first try, and have to loop around it again and again. Would loved to have watched how the house of commons negotiated on the 7 times; they're hilarious. (anyone see robin williams imitating the scotch coming up with golf?) Around here roundabouts are so far single lane.

1)Acute muscle and tissue damage to the right of the neck and below left ear.
2)Acute sublaxation on C1 and C5 of the vertebrae
3)Lower hip contusion.

We have several roundabouts here in Sonoma county (Northern CA). They aren't that bad, it does slow down people--without having to stop.

I am going to be driving down to Riverside next month--will I run into the same freeway remodel hell that I had last year. When will the 210 be a straight shot into Riverside?

Very sorry about the MDX. I agree with everyone, cars can be replaced--family can't.

Thanks for the comments. Hey...be REALLY CAREFUL on the 210 heading west merging to the 60 heading south. That is where we got rear-ended!

He will get insurance coverage more expediently with a licensed physical therapist than a chiropractor.
No hits on the chiropractor, many are worth their weight in gold, but so are many phys. therapists. He likely could have sustained similar injuries playing football. Except he would have been having fun...

Plus, he could get a longer period of treatment allowed if it is deemed necessary by a therapist.

I speak from taking an overactive (aren't they all?) teen to a doctor more than once for similar injuries.

I agree on pulling the reins in on surgery...if it is recommended get at least 2 other opinions.

They are used in the UK as a traffic control mechanism, but it's sure an inconvenience when you are in a hurry. 7 times around is the legal limit too. Can you imagine enforcing that one?

I don't think I ever exceeded the limit, but they were useful for taking a moment to read a map so I could figure out where I was. There didn't ever seem to be signs showing where you were, just where you were going so we had to do a lot of triangulation to figure out where we were.
