| Can anyone tell me if the posts for the 2002 front headrests are hollow? Reason for asking is that I plan on doing headrest screens and after cutting a small section off of my 2003 front headrests I have found that they are solid and I don't want to route the wires any other way. Thanks for all the help. |

No, they're solid. You'll have to route the wire out of the seam/fold between the posts, then poke a hole next to the "post receiver" on the seat itself. There's a metal bar assembly between the receivers, but you can feel around to see how far it goes (about 1.5" wide IIRC). Use split loom on the wire and it'll look OK
Sounds worse than it looks.
I can take some pics later if you'd like. |

| If it does not inconvenience you, I would greatly appreciate pictures. My other option that I have been thinking about is the vizualogic headrests, but with the 'ratcheting 3 positions' I am worried about the possibility of whiplash should I get into an accident. |

I had the same concern before purchasing the Vizualogic, however, bought them based on some feedback by other org'ers...
I can tell you that now that they are installed, I have no concerns at all, and the ratcheting mechanism only owrks one way, thus, to get it back to position number 1, you have to ratchet to 2, and 3, then it goes all the way back again...just as solid as the OEM front headrests which now occupy the middle row seats...
BTW-the wire goes through the tube on the Vizualogic..good luck with whatever you decide... |

Thanks for the reply Curtsan. You hit the nail right on the head with that reply.:2:
Do the vizualogic screens tilt down far enough for a 3 year old in a booster seat to see? Thanks. |

Here are a couple of pics to give you an idea of the wire routing for the stock headrests...
First one is at "1 click" |

This one's @ 3 clicks.
Note where the wire goes into the seatback; that's where you need to poke a hole for routing -- adjacent to the HR receiver bracket. That wire exits the headrest itself through the fold/seam on the underside of the HR.
The wire's only visible from the front; you can't even see it from the backseat. |

Thanks for the great pics. Since I am short there is no need for me to raise the headrests (some perks of being short) so you probably will not see the wire at all !!! Thanks for posting the pics so quickly.
I just need to decide which method would be more appropriate and cheap for my application.
Thanks for all the replies, you guys rock. |

X2Z...it it helps at all, the deciding factor for me was the fact that I didn't feel comfortable installing the monitors myself, thus incurring install costs. With buying the seperate monitors, (and yes, there are probably a bit better quality out there) and getting them installed in my own headrests, I felt like the cost of the Vizualogic became a bargain. Also, I wanted full size headrests for row 2 anyway, so I did not have to buy these, since I moved the front row into the second row...again, a cost saving incurred. And, I still have uncut full size headrests down the road if I decide to sell the X...(heaven forbid...)
Anyway, I think they are great, very clean looking, and everyone is wowed on how the X comes that way from the factory...(they think...)
BTW-the angle of the headrests in the furthest back position is about the same as the factory headrests...it is from there that they ratchet forward...but I don't think viewing angle would be a problem for the "smaller" people in our family...optimum?...no..but they will grow and appreciate them even more over time... |
