I am considering replacing my STS with an SUV and I really like the MDX. I have a brochure but no where does it mention the spare tire. I would like to know where it is and what it is.
Also, are the seats reinforced so that they do not colapse in a rear end collision? |

I'm not sure WHAT the spare is but I can tell you that is underneath the rear of the MDX, lift cover in the back and turn the bolt and it decends to the ground. I'll check what kind of tire it is later.

it is definately not an alloy wheel. I'm pretty sure that its one of those dummy tires.

Not a "dummy" tire, but neither is it a 'regular' wheel/tire. It is a special deal that GY has made. There is enough room to fit a standard wheel/tire up there, but the special spare is a bit lighter. Frankly it is a royal pain to deal with these big wheels. I hope I never have to change one on a roadside, you'd need a full jumpsuit. If it was cold/wet I'd just have roadside service.

You won't have to change the tire if you get stuck just call the TLC Number and Acura will send someone to do it for you. You gotta love that!

Hubby wanted to replace spare with a full size wheel/tire. Called our dealer and a few tire places, no one carried a steel wheel in that size, acura wanted megabucks for an alloy one. Anyone have other ideas?

I found a Michelin Cross Terrain as a take off for $100 delivered and a Touring Wheel for $75. Now I have a full size spare. Acura should have done this from the git-go. The difference in weight is actually quite small.
