That really depends on how much you're willing to spend. Personally, I bought 2 sets of the Infinity reference series 6002i for the doors. For the sub, I purchased a 10" Kenwood. I think they sound great. Anyways, the Infinity's typically go for about $100 a pair, but I bought my on sale. Hope this helps. |

Depends on your budget, and what else you're putting in to the stereo. Lots of info if you Search.
Like riceboi mentioned, for a straight speaker swap the Infinity 6002I are the standard choice on this Forum. They're efficient at 92 dB @ 1watt, they fit easily, and the sound is a definite improvement over the Bose. They sound better after breaking in, too.
If you're going to install amps, there are more expensive and better choices, like some of the Boston Acoustics.
If your budget is bigger, several people love the Focal Polykevlars.
Search for a thread on 6002i installation, and don't miss Curtsan's interior re-build job for his A/V system. |

| I see the infinity's are popular but I was just wondering what else was out there. My budget that I was looking to stay around is $500. The biggest problem I have with the speakers now is that when all of the windows are down and your driving on the highway it just isn't loud enough. Thanks for your help. |

As I'm no car stereo expert (I let my buddy install everything above my knowledge), I would imagine you might want to invest in a good amp to "power" whatever speakers you choose. For example, the 6002i's can handle @ 60 watts of continuous power but most headunits only put out about 20 watts. A good amp can help you make full use of your speakers. Again, I'm no expert so I may be totally wrong, so take my words with a grain of salt. If you search, there are many threads on the forum with recommendations from others who I'm sure are more informed and knowledgeabel than me. |

mase9338,
Boston's FX-6s seem to be popular as well... check out this prior thread...http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...&threadid=10723 |

| I'm not a speaker guy but when I see the ads, Alpine is even more expensive than Sony so I think Alpine makes better speakers. I think of that because Sony usually sells the most expensive products around and they're mostly the best and now Alpine is even more expensive. Do you think it's because Alpine only makes sound system and while Sony makes almost everything in electronics????? |

I had a pair of alpine coax's in my last car and they sounded horrible. They do make good head units though. |

mase9338, if your major complaint is volume then none of the speaker replacements alone are going to solve the problem. You will need an amp to go along with the speakers. Neither the Bose nor the Premium have enough power to pump premium speakers anywhere near their optimum output level.
You can blow a speaker just as easily with too little power as you can with too much power. Believe it or not both are bad for the speaker.
In my case I find that the Infinity door speakers are acceptable to me with the Bose main amp, but the sub amp is not anywhere near enough to drive the Polk GNX10DVC I have replaced the Bose full range rear speaker with. I am going to install a small 125 watt amp in the rear next week to drive the sub and I think that will satisfy my needs, but I don't drive with the windows down and don't feel the need for others to hear my car thump as some do (not saying that you do either).
I paid $125 for the four door speakers, $99 for the sub (I'm running the 2 ohm version), and the amp will cost about $165 or so I think. A reasonable upgrade price. |

I too like to crank it up with the windows down
I first replaced the front and rear door speakers with the Infinity 625s - better sound but no volume increase and no good bass
I then replaced the subwoofer with a Polk 10" GNX with a low pass filter to send nothing by low bass to it, no custom enclosure just sealed in the existing space - bass volume just about disappeared
I then installed a 200 watt mono amplifer to drive the Polk - good bass volume, I can shake the whole MDX, but too boomy when turned up
BUT still not enough volume to crank it up driving down the highway with the windows down
Now I'm trying to figure out how to swap the mono amp out for a five channel to drive all the speakers
It needs more power. No if and or buts about it.

| Another problem I think you will run into if you amp it up too much is the door panels will start shaking pretty bad. I noticed that when you put the power to the sub the rear panel vibrates pretty bad and will need to have some work done to keep it steady. I doubt the door panels are any better. |

I can't believe people show off with their MDX and not with a sports car. |
